The bit about output power kinda really only applies if you're buying a tube amp. The rest does transfer over pretty well, though.

Do they state why their amps are so expensive? or why they think trying to sweeten the deal with a T-SHIRT AND FOOTSWITCH REBATE is such a great idea?

I'm really just bitter I can't afford an Orange amp. Great article though!

I see the tshirt and unwanted footswitch offer the same way. I give it as much weight as a credit card offer that flaunts a rewards program.

New to bass - with all sincerity, welcome to the Dark Side, of which I have been a member for 15 years after crossing over myself. :thumbsup: I'm not going back, but I pretend to dabble a bit with my acoustics and one electric.

Now, here's the TB'esque slightly sarcastical cynical side: I wonder how long it will take for you to become an opinionated gear head (dare I say snob? Nah...) once you've bought & sold a bunch of stuff? :eyebrow:

Please don't take me too seriously - just that I was thinking back to when I started (my first bass was a Steinberger Q4) and since that time I've tried a lot of stuff - mostly because I bought and sold things, not necessarily because I was chasing some unobtainable tone in my brain.

Hmmm, this is probably a good idea for a separate thread. You're already a guitar player, so you probably know what I'm talking about. Anyway, welcome and enjoy the ride, lots of resources here, and if I can be of further help (disclaimer: my advice is very opinionated and biased towards Trace Elliot, Mesa, Dingwall etc. and contrary to Markbass, Fender, Gibson, and many others, fyi. :spit:) I'll be glad to chime in, even when not asked.

I cannot be the only person that had quite the laugh at this section:

Yeah, we get it. We know Orange amps are like catnip to guitarists, and we wouldn’t want to discourage that. But, playing devil’s advocate for a second, we’re also keen to point out that our reputation isn’t solely built on fancy branding, winning personalities and a good sense of humour. People like our amps because we have built a heritage based on quality, craftsmanship and good old fashioned tone. So when you’re looking for your next amp, be radical and make your decision based on the features, functionality and sounds you can actually hear, rather than the logo on the front. You’ll be glad of it in the long run.

I stole this from another member but it sums it up best: Orange amps, yesterday's technology at tomorrow's prices.

Part of me is tempted to start my own store called something cheesy like "The Bassment" where bass players are not 2nd class citizens.

I read the article and as a former guitartist all I saw was "blah blah buy our stuff and wish you had bought something better" I call pure BS on the never using the 100 all tube head. I played a Marshall JCM 900 for a long time, and I always had that sound, it's called a power attenuator and load box. You crank the amp to the sweet spot and then use the box inline between the head and cab to back off the volume. No orange amp will ever sound like a full Marshall or Mesa triple rectifier cranked. Thats not saying they suck or sound bad, I like their tone on guitar amps, not so much on the bass side though.

Also, I was blissfully unaware how easy guitarist have it. GC has a pretty comprehensive selection in any given store AND zeroing in on what you want is crazy easy in comparison. You already know you want 12" speakers the only question is how many? Tubes or solid state...tubes, duh. Also, for the price of a marginal SS bass amp I can easily buy a Class A guitar amp.
