Good vibrations, Bad vibrations it’s all about vibrations!! RAM would like to introduce a new signature level knob developed for the mighty Silver Rock potentiometer. The standard bakelite knob is certainly the best sounding compromise... but now Audio Consulting has taken this aspect of the Silver Rock much further. The new knobs are custom made with beech wood and bronze where the bronze is used as the insert to mount to the stem of the volume pot. The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effect…really amazing! The point here is the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound). With the signature knobs micro vibrations from the C37 concept of wood, bronze and the lacquer itself compensate for the volume pots and provide (Good Vibrations) our ear/brain combination like to hear…way better sound!!

I started to use my control knobs (volume, bass, treble) a couple of years ago...It's now very natural to me...I cannot believe I did'nt do that when I started out on the bass....Learning curve, I guess....

My main squeeze has 3 way selector, 2 volumes 2 tones, coil taps for both pups and a phase switch so I can create all sorts of sounds just with the bass in hand.
Then there is my latest creation Franken-Rick-O-Jazz......
Other basses seem so limited to me, like going from a full figured gal to a twiggy.

This is exactly what I need!!! Does RAM offer these in varying lacquer thicknesses to allow the bassist to compensate for varying room acoustics? I am hoping RAM provides a complete "set" of these knobs graduating from thin lacquer thicknesses to thick ones so I can select the right knobs for the right venue for that evening's performance.

(Btw, Kosko's post is one of the best and funniest posts I have ever read on TB. They say truth is always funnier than fiction, and Kosko's post demonstrates the truth about how saturated we all are with total marketing BS hype and how manufacturers insult our intelligence by actually expecting us to buy into that crappola.)

Nikki has that on all of his basses. He hooks his pinky in it to help when he picks the bass up vertical. Check out the Saints of Los Angeles video, he does it in there. He calls it an OptiGrab handle.

I'm going through that stage right now with my 6-string non-bass.

If anyone here has a piezo pickup on their bass, they know how much of an effect that blend knob between it and the magnetic pup can be. I love it.

I'm surprised noone else commented on this. I mean I don't mean to make this an audiophile bash, but seriously? 485 dollars for a KNOB? Why not just go knobless, that will reduce dampening on the system bye their logic!
