A Just For Fun Thread - "Coolest looking cabs\stacks"

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by calypsocoral302, Jan 20, 2022.

  1. Exactly what the thread title says-- what cabs or rigs did you see on stage, in a magazine, or whatever, that made you say "THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!"?

    My nominees:

    1) The "Big F(ri)cking Cabinet", part of a "Tri-Amp" rig that included a 1200 watt head ran the upper portion of the cabinet-- 4x10's with (2) hi-frequency drivers-- in stereo, while running the lower portion of the cabinet -- a 1x15 -- in mono as a sub. This cabinet was Gibson-era TE, but shown here with what appears to be an older TE head:

    2) The Glockenklang 6-Box (6x10). I love the look of this, mostly due to the sturdy, linebacker-like stance, and the arrangement of the ports-- like a 2x10+T was placed on top of a 4x10 and the two were merged:

    3) The SWR Henry The 8x8. Big Cabinet? Check! Lots of drivers? Check! Frickin' huge ports? Check! The only problem is, I feel the need to keep the number of "8's" running, and play it through a 400W tube head with (8) KT-88's!

    4) The Genz-Benz NEOX-212T. Yeah, sure, you can tell me all you want about that modern vertical 2x12's from other manufacturers are more efficient for their footprint, blah, blah, blah. But no "small" cab on the market today made quite the same visual statement as this broad-shouldered, dual-symmetrical-monster-sized-port'ed beast!

    5) And of course, the king of rigs, in my opinion-- The Acoustic Control Corp 360\370. I don't feel a need to comment on this further-- just let it stand on its' own:

    Totally a home grown franken-rig.

And I like my latest DIY 4x8

Or the other DIY 4x8 from a couple years back

As far as production stuff, new or old; I definitely like 3 piece stacks with matching cabs.... but I'm back and forth with grill cloth. I like to see the drivers but sometimes the opaque grillcloth lends itself to sexiness. I can say for sure I'm not a fan of round grills, generally. The Ampro has such a cool art deco vibe that I can look past the circle grills.

Well my personal definition of a "stack" is at least two cabinets and some sort of rack/head.

A largish cabinet with just a head on top is not my definition of a "stack" IMHO.

You get extra cred points if your stack is taller than you are :)

This is more my idea of a "stack" although technically I suppose you could call it a stack(s). :)

  6. Back when I was a Bill Fitzmaurice franchisee, one of the builders did a T36 build for Kevin James.

Well ya twisted my arm.....again, most of this is at home in Mass in a storage space.

Two late 70's heads and two early 70's flatback cabs.

I think this may the the real king though:

They were made for a Monsters of Rock tour during the 90's for Van Halen I believe but all the bands got jealous and they weren't used. They made several.

    600 tube watts with 36 10" speakers.

OP didn't specify "bass," so I'll toss in this rig with a look I love:

I tweaked one of those. Decent rig. Supposed to cop the sportster car vibe, but does ok as a robot face too.

In all seriousness though, I always smile when I turn around on stage and see mine smiling back at me.

  16. Mine is a black version with three three 15" cab which looks much better than the 2x15" but it's entombed behind a console organ and other stuff.
  17. Piles of shiny speakers...
  18. I don’t have a picture, but back in the day I had a pair of Golly Jnr 2 cabs and a Big Ben. 1400watt power amp. Wild stuff v

I have a thing for the Genzler Bass Array cabs. Puts a smile on my face whenever I catch a glimpse of them. This 210/115 rig packs a pretty good punch.
