One of the best bass sounds from the era...

I'm not sure I would consider it one of the "best" sounds from the era — for one thing, the 302 sub didn't really go low enough, and tended to fart out on loud transients — but it definitely sounded better than most people expected it to. Upright players gave it a bit more respect than electric guys.

Exactly what the thread title says-- what cabs or rigs did you see on stage, in a magazine, or whatever, that made you say "THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!"?

My nominees:

1) The "Big F(ri)cking Cabinet", part of a "Tri-Amp" rig that included a 1200 watt head ran the upper portion of the cabinet-- 4x10's with (2) hi-frequency drivers-- in stereo, while running the lower portion of the cabinet -- a 1x15 -- in mono as a sub. This cabinet was Gibson-era TE, but shown here with what appears to be an older TE head:

2) The Glockenklang 6-Box (6x10). I love the look of this, mostly due to the sturdy, linebacker-like stance, and the arrangement of the ports-- like a 2x10+T was placed on top of a 4x10 and the two were merged:

3) The SWR Henry The 8x8. Big Cabinet? Check! Lots of drivers? Check! Frickin' huge ports? Check! The only problem is, I feel the need to keep the number of "8's" running, and play it through a 400W tube head with (8) KT-88's!

4) The Genz-Benz NEOX-212T. Yeah, sure, you can tell me all you want about that modern vertical 2x12's from other manufacturers are more efficient for their footprint, blah, blah, blah. But no "small" cab on the market today made quite the same visual statement as this broad-shouldered, dual-symmetrical-monster-sized-port'ed beast!

5) And of course, the king of rigs, in my opinion-- The Acoustic Control Corp 360\370. I don't feel a need to comment on this further-- just let it stand on its' own:

OK, I'll have to put up my DNA/Eden rig. This is the Eden WT500/800 sitting on top of my DNS-210 by DNA on top of my DNS-410 by DNA. GREAT sounding rig and doesn't look bad either. For running both at once now I use my DNA-800 class D amp that only weighs 4.8-lbs, but it doesn't look nearly as impressive sitting on top of those cabinets.

This is my old rig, a Peavey 1820 cut in two with a 900 watt QSC power amp and Peavey ProBass 1000 preamp. Not big but a real pants flapper.

I played through an Eden head a few months ago at a jam and it really impressed me, very clear but warm tone. I don't remember the model though, Traveler or something? It was an old one. The bassist had two 12" cabs under it but the head was definitely too much for them.

Too bad you're not still gigging them. I like to look but would NOT want to move them around. I would have back in the day but knees are crap now moving heavy gear is no fun. Still.....I like seeing it!
