Zero tension causes forward bow.You didn't notice anything wrong with the neck when you inspected it? A bass with a broken rod is usually in backbow.
Too much tension causes back bow-- can't have too much tension with a broken truss rod.

Did this guy have many previous transactions or positive feedback?
The seller actually had good recommendations here. Very surprised by the events.

Dude, that's awesome. Yeah, there's a lot of cool people here and I have been blessed by the experiences here. I've been hooked up on many different occasions. I'm sorry that this happened to you man.[/
it was actually completely straight...I would have expected the neck to be forward bowed, unless there were no string tension on it.
In his listing for that bass I recall seeing one member say that the seller was a good guy to buy from..he had only positive feedbacks thus far.Oh that sucks. I must have bought, sold and traded more than three dozen basses and amps and innumerable pedals on TB over more than a decade and have never gotten screwed like that. I think most of us value our reputations and feedback and also the sense of community fostered by this site.

Sent a mod a message. And have you contacted the mods about this just in case?
Anyone have a link to the last one of these that played out here? It was quite a night.
He also went on to say that when he bought the bass he never had it serviced or checked in any way. He played it a couple of times and then put it in the closet. Then when I bought it, he then adjusted the truss rod and it was functional. I can't understand why, giving it such little care and attention during the time ha had it, why he'd care to adjust the truss rod now? I also can't underdtand how, If it was not already broken, how it was frozen when I went to adjust it, and the end was sheared off and rusty??I've owned basses that I've had for years and never ever touched the truss rod. Perhaps this was the case for the previous owner? OK, the disappearing account makes me skeptical. I'd send the neck to Lakland, get it fixed and move on.
Yes, but the actions of the seller, if even remotely accurately related here are pretty obvious.
Well he claimed to have adjusted he truss rod normally before bringing it to me, however it was frozen when I tried to adjust it..It sounded like the seller may not have known it was broken.
I’ve done a number of good deals and it has always been with a knowledgeable buyer or seller.
OTOH, the thing is busted and he should take it back with full refund; no fault / no harm
Yes indeed. At first he agreed, then 30 mins later recanted.Have you contacted him a requested a refund yet?
