A long detailed question about using two combo amps live

I want to beef up my sound for DIY events. Im using a 100w 1x15 extension cab, but the 3110 can do 150w when using an extension. So I figured i'd get a 150w 1x10 and a 1x15 combo to cheaply beef it up. I'm only using the phaser to run two combos cheaply. I'm not looking to buy gear I don't need to if I don't have to.

The internal speaker in your 3110 combo should put out about 150 watts on its own, as it is an 8 ohm speaker. With an additional 8 ohm extension speaker with the rear external speaker jack, you will be realizing 300 watts into the combined 4 ohms presented.

There are some that claim that there are phasing issues when mixing driver sizes in the same rig: I don't have an opinion either way. If you are concerned about the brand, pick up a P210KC. It will triple your cone area, is 8 ohms, and should provide tons of output.

I think you meant that you wanted to use the phaser pedal as a signal splitter between two combos. This might work if you turn the effect levels down to their minimum, but I doubt that you could entirely eliminate its influence. If you are dead set on running two combos, get a dedicated signal splitter to add to your rats nest. After all, what's a few more cables?

Can you disconnect the combo's internal speaker ?

If not, adding a 4X10 would be a nightmare. You would be splitting the amps output between a 1 speaker cab (the internal), and a 4 speaker cab. The internal speaker will be getting 4X the power of the speakers in the 4X10.

In simple terms, the watts quoted on external cabinets usually refer to the maximum power they can handle from the amplifier, and your amplifier can't put out more than 300 watts into 4 ohms. So all you need to do is make sure the external cabinet is rated for 150 watts or more. Adding a cabinet rated for 500 watts won't magically give you more than what the Promethean can put out.

The P210KC I mentioned is a 2x10 8 ohm cabinet, rated at 250 watts. I only mentioned it if you want to stick with the Promethean product line, as it should be loaded with the same 10" drivers as found in your combo, giving you more of what you already like. You should be able to place the 210 vertical with the combo on top, thus having a 3x10 vertical array. Check this thread:

If you want a 410, buy a good amp head and leave the combo at home. I'm a proponent of simplification, and have left the jank behind.

Better than that, you can take the whole amp out of the combo and it's a full head, shelled and all. Hence my suggestion to get a 4x10 or 2x12.

Oh I got the new one. It's a proper combo. I wish they kept that as part of the series.
