A Muddy Sounding Bass That's Not A Thunderbird?

I've never played one of these but I am betting it is a "mud slinger"! It should be very well balanced with it being a Fender and the strap button over #12 fret.

Amazing, my Gibson T-bird freaking sings in the high end. It's my new favorite axe and now I feel sorry for my Fender Aerodyne and Rickenbacker. I LOOOVE the ergonomics, but I love a big bass and skinny neck. Yes, the first time I tried a T-bird and found it too muddy then realized they were set up for classic tone. I pulled the trigger, put on DR Hi Beams and this thing just cuts right through.

The EB suggestions are great. My understanding is short-scale basses are the way to go for this sort of tone and I have even tried micro basses that really pull this off better than long-scale basses.

Sounds like a Mudometer would be a great invention to help us all agree what mud is. A bit like VAR in Football (Soccer) which stops all the endless debating over the off-side rule. One person's mud is another person's diamond-cutting top end!

I agree with everyone who has said I never found T-birds to be muddy sounding.
SG, EB3, EB-0 have a deep rich tone sometimes referred to as muddy, also warm, mellow

My EB-0 isn't muddy, at all. A good deep, warm mellow, clear tone. Great output from the Sidewinder Humbucking as well. Strung with D'Addario ETB92S Nylons.

I own these.
For lack of a better word the SG is muddy in comparison.
To me, that isn't a bad thing. Yes, you can get clear tones out of it, but it isn't gonna sound like my Jazz or my Ric. And I'm okay with that, because when I play my SG I want something different than what I last played. That's one of the reasons I have different basses. Maybe muddy is a bad connotation and a different word should be used, but muddy is just fine with me.

yes you are correct ... it is a nickname given to the bass ... many hate the pickup ... I kinda like it ... especially when it is used on the EB-3
