A note to all sound reinforcement engineers

Just an anecdote here...I recently learned Buy Me a Boat by Chris Janson. While there is nothing wrong with the studio bass line, the live bass line just sounds better when performed live. The studio line sounds alright on the recording, because there's production and a bunch of other studio cats to fill out the sound of the song. That's not always the case with the live version.
We've recently (a month+?) added "Buy Me A Boat" to our repertoire, and your post confirms the confusion when learning top-40 country covers.
I've now taken to communicating with the band to confirm which version of a song we plan to learn so we are all on the same page. That way we don't have folks showing up to rehearsal to put the song together for the first time, having learnt a different version.
PS: this applies to guitar (+ leads) as well as bass lines, BTW.
