You don't want to insult her or seem ungrateful, so I think more basses is the only way to respect her gift. /WINK
Well it's blatantly obvious that she feels you don't have enough basses, I think we can all agree on that. However, you should wait until after Christmas to buy any yourself. She probably has 4 brand new basses for you to open Christmas morning. I mean, why would you buy someone a multi space guitar stand without also making sure you have enough shiny new instruments to fill it with? That would be silly!

Yeah, get some more basses, but get her one also, you know, with features YOU approve of, so that she
doesn't develop any bad habits as she learns how to play, yeah, that's the ticket...

It's a crystal clear message, and I personally think she would actually be insulted if she saw one empty space in the rack... Happy wife=happy life
If you are interested in a short scale, previous poster recomended a Jag SS. I have one, it's great. Another to look into is the Gretsch Junior Jet. I have one of those too, bit more money than the Jag (about 300 new) but outstanding value, and plays like a dream.
Your wife is an enabler. Nonetheless, I'd leave at least ONE slot in the stand open – then it looks like you aren't full up and greedy...
