A rare find at Guitar Center

You never really know whats gonna walk through the door. Mostly crap, but every once in a while a score. I got a Geddy Lee for $425. I barely missed a Roscoe fretless 5 for $1100. Nice score on the Pavel!

The way it sounded I thought it was a fretless at first. Nice tone none the less, very Alembic-like IMO.

Very nice looking instrument.

After seeing his early stuff and some of his repairs when he was based here in South Florida, I never would have thought over 10 years later I'd see the name again, especially in this context.
I seem to remember a friends bass that had a fret slot cut about 1/16" off that was corrected during the slotting process by being filled with matching fingerboard wood and having the correct slot cut next to it. That bothered me a little.

There's a Pavel on EBay right now for $2400 if I remember correct, so they're definitely not cheap.

that's crazy price MTD635 for only 1900...

I bought a Surine Protocol 7 ($1k), a first year gloss finish MTD 635 ($1900) and a Fodera Anthony Jackson Contrabass ($2500) just to name a few at Guitar Center stores. People bring all sorts of cool stuff in for all sorts of reason.

In this economy, it could just be a need to get some cash together quickly. Nice score.

Looks like the same brand but a different bass. The OP bass has 4 control knobs, the one Randy is playing has 3. The headstock on the OP bass is black, the one Randy is playing looks to be matching woodgrain.

Man I remember seeing that record cover in bass player magazine for quite a while. Much the same as everyone who got guitar player remembers that racer x cover in every edition. Ahhh... being a teenager in the 80's. Now where did I put my parachute pants?
