A Rex Brown Query...

First of all, may I ask you to excuse the fanboyism :D

Floods is probably my favourite Pantera song I've heard. And a big part of why I like it is that monstorous tone Rex gets during the guitar solo. It's like an earthquake! Trouble I don't know how he obtains it. I'd expect a good part of it would be the Spector and Ampeg combination, but that sounds like a little more than an overdriven tube amp to me.

Obviously I'd love some help in finding out what else could be done to acheive this tone, anyone have any ideas? :help:

I read in an interview with Rex about his work with Down (can't for the life of me remember the name of the mag, most probably Bass Player I think) and he said that he has 'this one (overdrive?) pedal that works more like a gain boost' so maybe that could be it?

May I say thanks for taking your time and reading this :)

Hello,
Go to this link and you will know what Rex used to record The Great Southern Trendkill (Ampeg + Sansamp). Floods is played with his fingers, not a pick. I totally agree with you : the tone and the line Rex plays during Darrell's solo are awesome. It's the best bass line and sound I've ever heard.
Hope it will help you and excuse me for my bad English (I'm French !)
