A Second Cab to compliment AMPEG PR410HLF

hey guys, I'm thinkin about buying a second cab for my setup. As i will be buying a used QSC Power amp for 400 bucks. 900 watts X 2 @ 4 ohms.

I want a cab to compliment my Ampeg PR410HLF.Im happy with this cab, it has tons of low end. I dont think i need a 15" driver. maybe a SVT410e? or Eden 410XLT...I like that eden cab's midrange punch...i really dig Robert De Leo's tone, and he uses it exclusively....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...heres a pic of my current setup

This cab has deep lows, but the highs sound too thin with no upper midrange pressence..It could be me, or my settings, but when i boost the mids too much, its sounds a bit nasel-like.....maybe i need to **** around with the horn. i got it midway.

My settings are pretty much flat on my SVT3pro...no UltraLow or Hi depressed. and i make a slight scoop on the mids on my graphic equalizer ( not really scooped mids as much as boosted lows)

But if i get another cab, with a more pleasant sounding high end, i could use the PR410HLF as a Low-end cab.

The question is, is it Highs that i need, or midrange? seems like a stupid question...i was thinkin ide just go with the ampeg SVT410he... by the way, i use effects and distortion, and play funk, and heavy metal. (seperate from each other)

I want punch and transparency....maybe Schroder cabs, or Eden cabs, or acugroove? what would you recomend?...what would you (your personal taste) like to comliment this cab with if you had it?

Tlwaps...if i had a couple roadies, ide probably do so. and ide also go with the 810e to tag along. best of both worlds. those damn lucky rich musicians

By the way....why are people afraid of the Ampeg PR410HLF? I think its one of the nicest sounding 410's out there.I think its sounds more powerful than the SVT410HLF. is it the weight?...Im nowhere close to being in top shape to be hauling this thing around, i come home hammered from a show, and i slide this monster out of my chevy blazer by myself. Yea its heavy, but ill do anything for tone, plus, the booze ease the pain. (just my opinion)

For upper mid growl, try the Mid Frequency selector in position 3 and turn the Midrange knob up. This will boost the 800hz range. Upper mids live in the 800hz-2khz zone and I am amazed that the PR-410hlf does not have good upper mid presence. The PR series is more clean sounding and the best representation of hi-fi Ampeg. The SVT 410hlf has more of a low boom along with a punch, and the usual Ampeg growl to it. Might want to turn up the tube gain knob (past half) along with the mid knob on your 3 pro. I notice you have the Warwick Corvette Standard; I used to own one too. You should be able to get the growl out of the bass and speaker. Honestly, I have not heavily used the PR 410hlf, but I am aware that the low end is devastating!

update: the problem wasnt the cab or the amp...it was the freakin ibanez with crappy stock electronics.. When i started taking the Warwick Corvette out to my gigs, this thing sounded amazing, im now in love with my ****! finally!

Lesson learned: NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF A GOOD QUALITY BASS!

sounds like I may be too late for a recommendation; but I was really happy with my pr410h and an acme low b2- they complimented each other very well imho. The amce's are pretty clean, and since you will be using a stereo power amp you can easily adjust for the different sensitivities.

I have an svt Pr410 and svt 4 pro..it sounds great at low to mid volume but when I turn it up it farts,,Ive tried running it mono bridged and dual mono using one channel and same results,,I hook a Trace Elliot 410 cab up and no fatring no matter how loud I turned it up,, any sugestions to get the pr 410 loud without farting?

You can't change how a cab works, it is what it is. If the SVT doesn't do what you need it to get something that does.

The 4 PRO pushes a ton of low end with the 33hz slider flat, the bass knob at "5" and nothing else engaged - the PRO 410hlf is a low end monster. I suggest not boosting the frequencies below 80hz at all - decreasing it would help with the PRO 410hlf setup. As for the Trace cab, it might have a much higher frequency roll off and might be avoiding the sub sonic boom the 4 PRO easily puts out. Also, keep your bass's controls flat too if it is active.

I can't imagine needing more than a PR410HLF. Seriously brutally loud cabinet.

I'd recommend you spend your money on PA subs so you can get that insane noise off the stage.

One thing I would also consider is a horn upgrade for that cab; a lower crossover point and a quality horn could really help you get more zing out of that cab. IIRC, it's not very present for about an octave before the horn comes in.
