GC turned down the card. She did let Amazon know. Unless she is incorrect as to where she got the gift card. The salesperson at GC told me he's seen them a few times now, he asked me if it was obtained from Amazon.

There are many critical things one could say about Amazon, but they don't deal in counterfeit goods.

you gotta be kidding me. I have gotten counterfeit Markley bass strings, counterfeit Columbia outerwear, counterfeit Hanes t-shirts, counterfeit computer parts…I have a list somewhere. Third party sellers are the worst for this but Amazon gets them too. It’s a huge problem and they’re aware of it, but they deal in such volume I don’t see how they could possibly address it.

This is a false statement. A lot, if not most items on Amazon are counterfeit. My brother has a metal detector company and there are many of "his" detectors on Amazon, but none are made by him. He gets warrantee claims every day for those fakes, because the buyers thought they are real. They are Chinese knock offs marketed under his name with copies of his labels and paperwork. He has complained to Amazon, but they don't do anything to stop it. If you do a search, you will find articles about all the fake items sold on Amazon

Amazon is a crapshot now. To many knockoffs. After getting a bum set of lithium batteries a couple years ago, I really don't buy much from them. It's as bad a as fleabay for fakes, but worse due to volume!!
