Good morning, Brandon (well, it's morning here)...

That Kay doesn't look so bad to me, I was expecting worse. I'm glad that you're considering hanging onto it.

I really wish MollyKay would pop in and have a look at your pics of the bass.

I have a friend named Bob Harrison who plays the **** out of an old Kay that looks waaaay worse than yours.... it was found for him by the drummer John Guerin. He hasn't done anything to it cosmetically, just kept it in reasonably good playing condition. It sort of looks like a dumpster diver special, but it sounds great (it's his only double bass). On that bass, he did a whole bunch of live and recorded work with the likes of Joe Farrell, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim, plus some great orchestral work when he lived in Switzerland, just to name a few that I can recall. He's blessedly unencumbered by any desire to upgrade, lucky guy! :D

its mornin here too. Yea I emailed mary kay. I do enjoy the kay very much. it is a great bass, its just seen better days, and doesnt like the classical music. and the action is like 2 inches too high, as llacnayr said, who is my good friend. and has personally played this bass a few times.

hey man. chill out a bit. you remind me of every bit of what i used to be like in high school. if i had my mind set on something, i had to have it done right away. my parents tried dissuade me of getting a lot of gear that i regret purchasing now and have since then sold on TB for way under the price I bought it.

You seem very adamant on selling this bass. And even when people make "offers" trying to show you how desirable of a bass it is, you make multiple posts asking for how much they'd offer you.

I can remember just last month when I wasn't happy with my own current bass, which is a great bass. I was coveting thy neighbor, David Wong, and staring fondly at all of David Gage's instruments, one of which was this great Juzek for 9000. The bass just wasnt playing right or sounding right for me. I decided to change strings in my frustration and I haven't been happier since.

Yes, the bass may be impossible to play but these "problems" are easier to fix then purchasing a new bass and getting it setup. You'd be surprised what new strings, a new setup, and a new endpin can do to your bass' "classical playing". It may sound completely different when the work is done, and if you don't like it, at least the Kay's value will go up 2 or 3 fold.

Thanks kevin. Ill keep that in mind. But I really DONT have enough money do do allot. Some $100 strings, $40 bridge, and most likly no endpin. I want a new fingerboard or get it re painted. but its too expensive for me. Regluing will be expensive, and I want to get the chips repaired which will be $150 I was told. I had the bass looked over by a Pro Luthier, and he said, based on the brand, condition, and quality it would only go for a few hundred dollars.

how were you planning on paying the $800 difference if that other bass did turn out to be a Meisel?

Brandon, you can't afford a truck, period. You can probably fix up the bass for a few hundred. Get bridge adjusters, a new fixed endpin that will fit in your current socket (check out Atomic on this site), a flexible braided tailwire, and some strings (Helicore or Corelli are $100, or buy used from a TBer). Then, if you still don't like the bass, you can sell it for decent money. Don't worry about cosmetics at this point.

Everything will be fine, don't worry!

Fella's…I’m trying to get out of the house for a Halloween Jam camping weekend (with no internet connection)…It is a Kay bass in good condition. :) There are plenty of Bluegrass players that would love to own a bass in that condition. A good set up, new strings, new end pin and she will be thumping again no big deal. Keep the Kay it will be worth more every day…but if you are going to not give it respect or play it then sell it to someone who will respect it and play it. I have a young person right now who is in need of a playable bass to begin taking bass lesson…should I send the flight case to pick up your Kay? :eyebrow:

Really…you all have given good advice to Brandon…let nature take it course. We all learn our lesson when we make mistakes…you can’t make every mistake but you will get real smart real quick by doing so. :D

Happy Halloween all…I’ve got some serious jam camping to do…pass the moonshine and jump over the camp fire. :bassist::D:hyper::cool:
