A world without money? Everything is free?

No, this idea would never work because of human nature. It has already been tried (communism) and has failed every single time.

Not just Communism- Pullman tried to build a Utopian urban area in Washington, outside of Chicago and in other parts of the country, not long after they started building railroad cars. The roads didn't meet the city's streets, but they were close. They had their own stores, movie theaters, schools, money and people were required to take classes "to better themselves". They were discouraged from going out of the community because it was Pullman's view that outside of their life, bad exists.

It didn't work.

The societies that have lasted longest are probably the Shakers.

the only problem I can see with my method is the possibility of a jet engine sprouting from my anus. It would certainly cut down on flight time but I'm not sure the ladies would be too into it.

i'm no expert, but i believe the intake would quickly become clogged with "debris"

I don't see the relevance of this, but great talking point.

You said this:
But yes, this idea will never work because of people like you.

In response to this:
Sometimes it's hard to say what one intends with a few sentences...a couple words in the wrong place or a sentence that could have been better constructed can give the wrong intent.

I do think that most people who have worked hard and done well for themselves deserve what they have...they were willing to make the sacrifices and do what it takes to make it better for themselves and their family. If everything was free, it takes away the incentive for people to make that extra effort. Why work harder if there is no reward?? I said I didn't want to be average because I believe that I have performed above average during my life, and therefore, myself and my family deserves to reap the rewards.

I'm just wondering if you're one of the "people like you" that will never make this idea work, or if perhaps you're different.

I lam Canadian. If there was no money. I wouldn't have oranges on my fridge; how would it get here and how would I barter with a grower 2000 miles away?

Greed is inherent and absolute. You may not be greedy but the guy down the street is; there's always someone.

These two simple facts should spell it out for you. I don't know why you would need any other reasoning to explain why money is required for not only social progress but longevity of individuals. without money I would have been in grave danger of death with a clot in my leg 10 days ago; prompt medical attention averted disaster. Thanks be to money. BTW I am not greedy and live a simple existence, my wife is greedy.

In response to the "why would (insert job title) work without compensation" question, I think the idea is that everyone would be contributing to society in a certain way, shape, or form. For example, cops protect us, so we farm their food.

Replace the food you give to the cop for money ... then you have our actual system. It is the only way a society can work.

I don't see how Fender would have the time to make free Fender P and J and feed his family or if he wanted to work hard and earn a lot for his hard work then realise one of his dream ... not gonna happen if there isn't any money, it isn't from the bread you give him for the bass that he will realise his dream and there is a lot of chances your bread don't have as much value as his bass. And what if ... he doesn't like your bread but like the one another guy make ... forget about having a Fender. Make it yourself.

Also if I don't have any chances to or that I can't aspire to a better life through hard work ... then why would I work harder ? I'll meet my quota with a very sloppy work because ... well why would I care ?

Nah forget it ! Take Cars ... in a communism system they will say they have only enough money to make 6 cars a years so ... people who want to work faster, harder to be on top, to be the best ... they can't because they have a small quota because the system can't make like more than 6 cars a years... so guess what ? they are depress, they make a sloppy job, they don't work a lot ...

Way more human evolution would have to happen before something like this would exist. Good idea, but like so many like it, the human element is the catalyst that leads to its failure.

Nah - if we ever manage to find a source of extremely cheap power, we will end up with a society where almost no one works and most things are in abundance.

We can have a no work, full greed society. Eventually institutional unemployment rates will start to exceed 50%.

I like the sound of that! The key is to stop making communism or socialism look so dreary, horrible and a hard state of living, make it fun and full of everything everyone could ever want for ever:hyper:
