About to go burn GC

Don't you have a credit card?

Nope, why pay interest when you've got a layaway function? I have the funds to pay for it straight out, but I like to dip a 20 here, a 50 there. Keeps the wife from catching on..:ninja:

No offense, but payments on a bass that's less than $350? In this situation, how much is too much down?

I didn't want to put down half. IIRC, GC's policy on layaways is 10%, and 30 days to pay if off, not 50% and 2 weeks. It would have cost me $175 pre-tax to put it on layaway.

By comparison, I put $75 down on my ATK ($249 used) and had 30 days to pay it off.

I feel I should mention that I use money from gigs to pay for stuff. If I have a few gigs worth of cake in my pocket, cool. If I know I'm gonna be playing every weekend for the next month, then I use the layaway function.

GC has a policy on there instruments. If you buy an instrument and within 30 days later you see it for a lower price they will give you your money back I believe. Here read this

And if you go back there and the employee says they don't do that tell them to either get there manager or bring up the guitarcenter website and show them.
