Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder?

Awhile back, I snagged a Gibson DC Les Paul Jr. bass in Faded Red. It had a dry, faded out looking rosewood board and needed a little filing on the fret sprout, but sounded good.

I enjoyed it for awhile, then decided I'm too big to be rocking a short-scale. Makes me look like a circus bear! So I decided to sell it.

Posted it here, but didn't get any serious interest. So I decided to keep it. Put it into it's pathetic gig bag (which a kid could probably use for a sleeping bag), and stuck it in the closet. Pretty much forgot about it.

Fast forward several months. I thought about it and got it out of the closet. I've been playing it for a few days now and I'm really enjoying it a lot. (Normally, I take turns and rotate my basses every day.) I forgot what a killer tone this little redhead has!

So now I'm glad that it didn't sell when I posted it. Circus bear look be damned! I'm just gonna' keep and enjoy it! It'll be a great little bass for traveling in my truck (if we're ever able to do that again!). That and my little Roland Micro Cube Bass amp and I'll have something to do in hotel rooms...

I'm a big advocate for sleeping on it, if considering selling a piece of gear. I mean sleeping on it for months.

I've only sold about four of the basses I've owned, and regret selling my Ovation Magnum and B.C. Rich Eagle.

But, I did this when I was young, and needed the money to fund another bass purchase.

Glad you kept it, I think a radical change in strings is order, I put some SIT Power Steels on that wonderful Thunderbird you sold to me - it's a positively a beast! Nice to see you're doing well!

Ha ha! You have more patience than me, Mike! I'm too impulsive. I'm always buying and selling. Although I HAVE slowed down a lot lately. Maybe I'm "growing up"?? (I'm 70...)

Mark, you and I will never agree on the strings! I'm just a hopeless flats devotee! But I'll bet you're right about that Thunderbird. It sounded massive with FLATS, so I can only imagine how she roars with those Power Steels. I'm so glad it went to somebody who appreciates it!
