AccuGroove El Whappo/Schroeder 1210

James Hart said:
I prefer 12" too.... My 1210 sounds killer with my 70's Sunn Sceptre (2x 6550 power tubes) But really comes alive with my Crown CE1000 bridged. It sounded pretty alright pushed with my 200watt (at 4 ohm) Ashdown Mag too.

I think I read your first post to mean, you're happy with the NV610 for big outdoor stuff, but want something to sound fuller for smaller/closer things ???

if so, yeah the 1210 would fit your need.

Hi James. Saw your pic on the site.
Well let's see. I'm very happy with the NV610 but I stated before that it lost the booty out at 12-15 ft on an outside gig. That usually isn't a problem but the set up that day was different from our usual 'unusual' set up. One of our lead singers is the drummer and he like to be seen better so he frequently sets up in the middle/front which causes some grief etc. Actually I like being in the back with the drummer as it SHOULD be and the Pro Stage we played on insisted that we do a "normal" set up. Because I'm not used to this I noticed that the NV lost bootay quickly when not standing closer ( 1' to 4') away were it is WAY to cool and can hear great, which was my reason for choosing this cab. I am more of a 12 fan than 10 and love my HT/EX112 but they are not enough for outside even with my Whoopin' Crest CA9 pushin them.

My original interest was the 1210 just from reading some about it. The biggest factor was the "throw" that has always been a problem with me, either not enough or too much. Some cabs I've owned sound great up close but 15' out .. zip. Others have been great when you get 10-15 out but up close .. zip. Some have a good wave up close and drop off and then later develope way in the back and kill the folks in the rear. I think I saw Petebass mention this somewhere.

Now, let me mention we almost always have PA support. Our PA is run by our Drummer instead of a soundman. We have EV T18 subs which are great for inside and so-so for outside. So, for outside I still think I need a little more than our system can provide if we have to use it. About 50% of our outside gigs are local festivals that require our own system and the other 50% are bigger and the sound is provided by the PRO's. Note: My Drummer typically likes his kick louder than my bass and that is usually what the audience/musician guys verify. " I can hear you good, but there is no punch in the chest, the kick is getting that." I've discussed this with MR. Drummer to no avail. I hate to fire him for that... he's a very good singer and good drummer too. Plus I like him a lot we get along great. So...

I don't really want to buy two more cabs if a single 1210 wouldn't do any better that the NV, hence some interest in the 410. But, one 1210 and my two Bergie 12 might be enough and if I liked it better I could also just haul one cab to the usual club gigs where I use the two Bergs. I guess the bottom line is I like to try new things but I am getting tired of spending so much in doing so.

Did you try a 1210?
Did you happen to try two of them?
If so how did it compare to your 410?
I saw the huge thread on Schroeder Cabs but did not have time to really read much of it..

If I did any kind of trial I think I would like to audtion the 1210 or 410.

I did play through the 1210, but not with my rig (shame on me -- I'm hoping to get together with BassJam with his 1210 & 1212, bring my rig & 410 over and do some serious comparisons). The 1210 was hooked to a Tech 21 RBI & a Carvin DCM600 (I believe it was the 600).

To me the 1210 sounds significantly thicker, but retaining some good punchiness (sounded bigger and tighter than my former Berg HT322 -- I couldn't be certain of the ultimate volume levels achievable, but I'd say probably pretty close in a live club environment). Two 1210's I have not heard, but they would be awesome. I think in most venues, you'd probably have to stack them to keep the lows from being over-powering.

The 410 is tighter throughout its range and at 1400W will get louder than sanity would recommend. I like the midrange better on the 410 as well, but that's just a personal preference. It remains very articulate down low where the HT322 started getting a bit overdriven sounding when pushed very hard.

As I said earlier (I think in this thread), the Schroeders have a bit of a warm edginess to the sound -- more the harder they're pushed -- but retain composure and tightness, very balanced sounding.

Thanks for the replies. I will give the 1210 a shot with my mini Bergs on one last outside gig if I get it in time. I will however bring my trusty NV610 since we should be able to park next to the stage. In fact I should probably just set it all up and A/B during the show.
I'm a hopeless gear slut...

hey lo-freq,come by anytime.id love to compare toys.

ive been switching between the 1210 and the 1212 and i love em both.ive tried em both together, alone, stacked, you name it.jorg is sending me another 1210-i want to see which combo i like the best.

if you have pa support and are playing clubs i feel the 1210 is plenty.especially if you put a wash of bass in your wedge.the 1212 is even louder if you like the tone of it.its thicker sounding and not as much high mid push.the 1210 to me seemed to cut through better.i went with the smaller cabs because i almost always have pa support as well and after several gigs i can usually get by with one.i have never had a problem hearing myself.for bigger or outdoor gigs ill take a second.the two together are insane.i love the flexability.however i have played one outdoor gig and i had no wedge and was using just my 1210.i was worried i wouldnt hear myself.i pushed it pretty hard and was very supprised how well the little guy did.the others on the stage heard me as well.it would have been nice to have the other cab but under the circumstances i was pleased.

I just wanted to comment that I may have very well kept my 322 if I would have had my Crest CA9 instead of PLX2402. You probably read all the hoopla on that thread and I don't want to start that up again, but the CA9 made a huge difference. I don't even bridge it into my Bergs. It may or may not have helped you but if you ever get a chance to compare the amps through your new 410 please do. Even a CA6 would be awesome. Although it's twice the weight to me it's twice the KA-POW. JMHO.

Yes, I always have PA support but never in the monitors. It's really not that big of a system. Maybe if I pointed the 1210 up if I was cramped on stage which is usually the case. Six piece band with horns. I've gotten a few PM tips since posting on this thread so we shall see.

I'm trying out a new band tonight.
Tell you what, give me a call (817-514-7793) when you get the second 1210 in from Jorg and I'll boogie over with my stuff. I really would love to hear a pair of 1210 in action.

:ninja: soooo much ugly in the world today :eyebrow:

I'm looking forward to your review! I had planned some of what you got before finding Jorg's cabinets. I hope to get another 1210 in the upside-down config down the road... not that it's needed in the band I'm in, but it would make me ready for *any* gig I take and I'd love to hear them with one on each side of the stage.

I'm real happy with my Crown... but I still gas for a crest CA series!

Someday :bassist:

Yes, it will probably be a couple weeks...I didn't see the "upside down config" offered. I wonder how that would work stacked. Probably be awesome having one angled 10 going oppisite ways.... ???... I usually stand to the left of my drummer and the rest of the band is also off to my right. It was suggested to me that the angled speaker would benefit the band if pointed more at the them which would mean I might need the reverse set up. What say you Jorg?

So, James have you ever tried your 1210 pointed up or down for a different effect. I ask for two reasons. First for space sake. A couple stages we play on are rediculously small and I could use the extra inches by standing it up giving the bandmates a little more room. Secondly it might help hearing with the 10 pointed up since I stand inches in front of my rig on that same stage.

Crown, QSC, Crest, and more are all excellent choices depending on what works the best for you. I have two QSC MXA amps for the PA and the CA9 for the rig. Whoopin!!!

i tried to stand the 1210 up with the 10 facing up.lost the lows and didnt like the sound.also tried to put a rack cover under the front to angle the front up a little and again lost some lows.then tried to put cab on a drum case to get it up and didnt like that either.to my ears the cab sounds best laid down flat on the floor.the band i play in playes a variety of stages from cramped to huge and the 1210 has worked out great.i do use a wedge on bigger stages but if i didnt i still feel the 1210 can do the job.i think it was this thread i stated i played an outdoor stage with no wedge.i used only the 1210.it would have been beter to have a second cab in that situation but was thrilled how well the 1210 handled it.i picked up the 1212 for the times like those.the 1210 and the 1212 are small enough that it is really no problem to lug them around and together they sound huge.

Not mentioned, but discussed... I'll have to see when the time comes if it is truely a choice.

I've only used mine as built... it has just a slightly bigger footprint then my rack, so I see no space reduction by standing on end. I've not need more or less then what the default positioning offers.

I've got a RMX2450 on the PA... no complaints, this Crown I'm using is a killer (will most likely move it to monitors when I go to a Crest). I've just been sold on the Crest stuff, it's the company I want powering my bass rig.

I don't know if Jorg will offer different configurations, but you could always flip them yourselves. The labels would look goofy and the tweeter might be in the wrong place, but eh... it's the price you pay. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the tweeter anyway; it's much easier to get highs than lows ;) By the way, for anyone who ordered the recent shipment, the cabs are coming by next weekend... for me at least :hyper:

Thanks for the replies. When I mentioned space, as in a smaller foot print standing up, the cab would make it like 16". That would save 7" at least. Not much really but I've been in some real tight places. Really at that point I'm almost always playing my bass with the head stock pointed toward the ceiling. It's amazing how some of these joints expect you to get the gear and band on a space and still have room for dancers. Funny. :eyebrow: That's one other thing I love about my mini Bergs, very small foot print and some kickin' little cabs. I'm trying the 1210 out because it's interesting and pretty affordable. I will however be somewhat disappointed if it must only be used in one position and rendered sort of useless any other way. I will admit that I tried my little Bergs on their sides stacked and side by side and they did sound different and not much to my liking so fair is fair. If the 1210 doesn't work out maybe I'll join Lowend and try a 410. I can't help myself.... :)
