AccuGroove Whappo Grande

Has anyone ever played this beast of a cabinet? I was just looking around online for a possible new bass rig and found this 21" driver of a bass cab. Must have the best bass frequency response out there. But would need to pair it with some 10"s or the El Whappo with 1x15", 1x10", 1x6", and 2 tweeters. Wondering how this thing is. Anybody got any experience with such a big cab size before?

B. It's from the same folks who brought you the Accuswitch.

How many companys have put somthing out that didn't quite work like they said. Alot .
I havent heard the hate for Agular, they had a few of those little D class amps that wern't what they wanted them to be,they got recalled/sold for next to nothing.
I think most people who play bass would still say Aguilar a top end bass amp company.

Don't let the accuswitch thing detract you from lookin at an Accugroove.sure it didn't work,but they don't make them anymore.They make off the hook cabs.

I have never used an El Whappo Grande, but I have a Bill Dickens cab. It sounds effing great.Everone who has heard the tone from the Bill loves it.Accugroove is a good cab maker worth a look for your self.After all its your ear that counts.

Making an amp that doesn't work right and gets recalled is one thing.....

Making a 4/8ohm switch you know isn't going to work at all before you even make it, then making it anyway and knowingly, intentionally lying to people about it trying to con them out of their money is quite another.

If you encase it in a black epoxy cube, they'll never be able to tell you're lying. ;)

For additional insight model the Beyma 21L50 in a number of likely enclosure sizes and see that it'll give a lot of output above 50 Hz with suitable amplification, but no tuning is actually capable of getting much closer than 2/3 to 1 octave of the stated spec.

Today of course there are 21" drivers designed for compact subwoofers that can get closer to the stated spec (at the expense of sensitivity and requiring a lot of power amp).

+1. No driver can realize the claimed response/sensitivity specs, or even close to it for that matter.

Thats not the case many times the company just puts them on sale. The agular fly somthing(can't recall the name) it had a bad bridge and the Eden E300t had no mute for the DI.Both of these were sold at a discount.

I do hear what yer sayin, the accuswitch was total bunk.
It's a shame because there product is great. They didn't need to make the "blackbox".

It seemed to me that the "switch" was just a heat sink.
I think they thiought the box would just take all the extra heat made by the missmatch ohms.Neat idea,too bad they didn't do more tests befor they sent them too market.
I think the fact that there still around after all of that should say somthing.

Anybody whos droppin through Wyoming I'd be happy to let you try my Bill Dickens and decide for your self.

IMO, it would be a shame if Accugroove went out of business. i have a late model (lightweight) whappo jr. and, IMO, it's as good as anything mass marketed or custom built.

it seems that some like to hang onto some company's failures. yes, i think that the accuswitch was a silly and bogus fiasco for them, but IMO it has nothing to do with the cabs that they made after they dropped the stupid thing.

I don't view the switch as some mistake that didn't work out. You know better than I you can't take a single voice coil speaker, put a switch on it and change impedance. Technically you could using a bank of resistors but every ounce of power increase would be lost as heat so what's the point. That's not to say Accu doesn't make stuff that sounds good. Matter of fact, one of the poweramps I use to this day came from a guy who invited me to his gig to hear/purchase it. It was in his bass rack rig and he played through a Tri115L I think? Whatever is the 3-way with 15" woofer. Granted he used an Avalon U5 and a Bee bass but it sounded fantastic. I'm not saying they don't make good stuff......I am saying tjey'll never get a penny of mine due to that kind of dishonesty as long as the same people (if you can call them that) are running the show around there, it's a matter of principle.

Same goes for you......I don't doubt your rig sounds good, I'd be surprised if it didn't. It's the principle of the thing. We live in a soundbyte/30 second clip society and a lot of these companies try to get over on people banking on the fact that most of them have short memories.............I don't.

Maybe somebody had a class D amp that got recalled or discontinued; but it wasn't Aguilar. What most people say about Aguilar is their president just lost 20 lbs. and is looking very sharp lately.

No pic....no 20lbs.:D.......kidding.

Thank you for the DB, one of the tubiest SS's I've ever heard. FWIW, I hadn't heard of Aguilar having a recall but now that the superfly is mentioned, I have seen complaints of HF noise. (Not Aguilar for those who don't know).
