Accurate Tuner for a 5-string

TC electronics works,even the clip on,tested in a noisy room.
If you are getting the clip on get the unitune,the poly tune mod is not for bass anyway.

I've been using a Peterson Strobostomp 2 for over 12 years with fantastic results. I also use a Boss TU-3 with absolutely no problems on the B-string. Even my Polytune clip-on works just fine on a B-string.

Well, I'm using the Korg Pitchclip 2+ and it's a piece of sh*t.

So, no more clip on tuners for me.

The tuner on my H9's is a little jumpy and a bit too easily spooked. I used to have a venerable Boss TU-3 and it was excellent. Accurate and didn't jump about (ie get spooked). The tuner on my old Zoom Ms-70CDR was actuallly just as good, which I found quite astounding. In fact I'd go as far to say that it's probably the best small box bass tuner I've used.

Korg Pitch Black is very good, but the fastest, most reliable and most accurate I've found is the Shure GLXD6. Impressive. Only thing is, it's a wireless receiver with a built-in tuner.

Per the recommendations of those I trust: Turbo Tuner. That being said, I have a couple of Petersons for detail work and 3 fly-rig / multi FX pedals all of which have on-board tuners. They are more-than-suitable for use in the field.

I got lucky and found a Waza craft Boss TU-3 for the same price as the regular TU-3 and took a punt on it. It's fast and accurate and the buffer is nice. If you see the same kind of deal, I'd recommend it. A definite upgrade from my Polytune (which I never used in poly mode anyway).

Sorry, i thought You meant - tuning machines. My favourite tuner is Korg - pitchclack. Yes, it's big and heavy, but made from metal and can be also used as a weapon to defend yourself.

Another very happy Turbo-tuner owner here. Still using my ST-200 after lots of years, and I have no desire to replace it.
Because it's a real strobe-tuner, it tracks my fretless intonation in real-time, too.

The only thing it struggles with is an EUB when I'm playing arco, but for that... a Korg clip-on knocks it into a cocked hat. Go figure.

Gigs: TC Electronic Polytune 3 Pedal Tuner (around $100 new; $60 used). Can choose between true bypass or buffered.
Home: Snark -- geared for guitar & bass ($12; actually works better than I thought on a 5-string). Can be a bit temperamental, but most of the time it gets the job done in short order.

Peterson Strobostomp. Fast. Locks in on the Low B — or Bb or A. Accurate. And easy to see on from a distance and in sunlight. Well worth the spend. Only negative is the rubber pad must be removed to attach Velcro.

I'm not sure how the Polytune clip on could be confused with the Korg, but ok.

I dunno. I've owned a couple of clip-ons. The Snark works fine, in my experience. I was really surprised that the wee tiny D'Addario clip on worked for me, too. I used it nightly in an orchestra pit a couple of years ago where I didn't have room for my pedal board. It worked fine and is still kicking around in my gig bag somewhere. It's so small you couldn't tell I had it clipped on to my 5-string Warwick. Especially with the painted-black headstock.

On my board it's been the PolyTune, quickly replaced by the Mini. And now I await my Peterson Strobostomp HD from Ebay. Love the way it looks in videos.

On my 5's I have used a Polytune clip-on pretty much since they came out with no problems. I use the Chromatic setting (non-strum) and set for bass and I have had no problems whatsoever tuning just straight-up open strings. Even with low tension flats! Tune, then pocket it.

I hate 'clip on' tuners nearly as much as I hate seeing players leave 'em on their headstocks on stage.

Another vote for the Strobostomp HD. Great accurate fast tuner even down low. Nice sized screen so its easy to see on stages (both in direct sun and darkness) and a whole variety of settings and options that give you lots of flexibility of use.

I have had great luck with the TU2, TU3, TU12H, Pitchblacks and Polytunes. I don't care for clip on tuners: both in function and appearance.
Also, a great way to get the B to track better for tuning is to hit the 12th fret harmonic. That alone has allowed me to get better results with lessor tuners.
