Yes, I'm definitely happy, Alan! Angie the Harlot debuted at church last weekend (that doesn't sound quite right, does it?), then went to band practice. Folks don't necessarily comment on my sound very much--I can't help sounding like me, I suppose :) --but she got lots of compliments on her looks. She's got her first band gig tonight, and I hope to have some "action" photos as well.

I'm tremendously impressed by the craftsmaship, by the elegant and amazingly comfortable design, by the beautiful woods, by the flexibility of the EQ, and by the great tone. Hopefully she'll have a fretless sister at some point...

Hey Alan,

I've really been enjoying the Harlot! The neck is very different from what I'm used to on the Curbows, but I'm digging the narrower spacing. I haven't usually had trouble with 35" scales, but with extended horn on the Harlot shape I don't even notice the longer scale at all. Fantastic!

The wide-open tone is very aggressive and Wal-ish (as I was hoping), but the filter preamp is great for smoothing things out and getting a more vintage-type vibe as well. I'm still learning exactly what each of the specific settings sounds like in the mix so I can make adjustments on the fly, and I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do, but I'm finding the preamp very natural to use. I'm beginning to see where the parallel/single coil switches will be useful, too, though I still gravitate back to series mode.

If there's one problem I've had, it's that the bass is almost too beautiful for some of the bar gigs! Folks always comment on it at every show, and hopefully soon I'll be able to post "live action" pics...

The only pic I have of a cavity which as you can see has no shielding or any wiring. This is from the 01 instructions, I used to sell it right at the very start.

Very pleased that you are getting on with the bass and pre-amp Mike.
The pre-amp does take a little while to get to grips with and a lot longer to explore all the possibilities. I always wanted some thing that was as versatile as possible and I think the filters let you do most things and some things you just can't with anything else. There are of course somethings the a normal 3 band EQ does better with out a doubt but it is impossible to cover everything and still make it usable.

thanks for the pic, I'm a big fan of the preamp (cannot afford your basses unfortunately) and I now only use ACG preamps in my basses

First Finn single cut with a Recurve lower horn.
Black Walnut body with a Claro Walnut top.
5 piece Maple/Wenge neck with a 26 fret Rosewood board.
ACG EQ01 pre-amp with FB pickups with ramp and coil switching. Hipshot Type A with Graphtech piezo. This is switchable with the bridge pickup. Low battery indicator.
Oil finish.

Hi
Just got this one finished.
Dirty finish on the Ash body and the Wenge/Padauk neck. Mac Ebony finger board with no radius.
Hipshot Type A 18 mm spacing,Schaller strap locks and Ultralite tuners.
Pre-amp is an ACG EQ02 4K/S. This is the single pickup version of my pre-amp having the following controls.
Volume, Low-pass filter stack,Hi-pass filter stack and passive tone.

The pickup is my new RFS. This is a triple coil pickup made up from a wide aperture humbucker with a single coil in between the humbucker coils so is in effect two pickups in the one housing. The 3 way mini switch gives you the following. Humbucker, single coil and humbucker and single coil together.
I am very pleased with this pickup.

Very cool bass, Alan--I really like the simplicity of the solid ash body with the single pickup, along with the slightly funky finish!

As I've mentioned before, I'm really interested in hearing more about the RFS pickup, as well. I do really like the series mode on my RFB pickups, but have never quite been totally crazy about the parallel and single-coil modes. Are the output levels a bit more even between the two pickups in the RFS?

I like the series in the RFB as well and feel the other two are a bit of a let down only really useful to blend with one of the pickups in series. With this new pickup which I did not want to offer anyone until I tried it out I will no longer offer switching on the RFB. To answer your question the levels are much better and the difference between the 3 options much more noticeable. It has worked out the way I hoped it would so I am pretty pleased with it.
