Since it is a piezo only the string choice makes a really big difference. I have SIT Power Flats on it at the moment which give it a nice double bass type thump. I also tried SIT Silencer semi flats and it sound much more electric fretless with those. The bass in the Finn Bass thread had TI flats on it and is some where in between the two SIT strings. More top end than the flats but smoother than the Silencers.

The wood for this bass was supplied by the customer a good friend of mine. The flamed White Limba is pretty rare and believe me if there was more I would have bought it. Unfortunately there is no more.

That's exactly why I fell in love with this one while Alan was building it - the understated yet classy looks. It got delivered yesterday and is not only fabulous to look at in real life, but also a joy to play. Balances very nicely, and huge tonal varieties to be found with the John East pre combined with switchable humbucker pickups. Sheer magic, my hat off to Alan for his craftsmanship. He's an incredibly nice guy, too.

Congratulations on the new bass! I've got a Taylor acoustic guitar with gorgeous flamed Nigerian satinwood back and sides (it's a shame people don't see it!). It's from a limited run of 1,000 and I've never come across another satinwood instrument so I was intrigued to see how this would turn out - the answer, as ever with Alan's work, is 'amazing'!

I've been playing fretless Skelf # 0087 for a couple of months now. And so......I'm convinced....... saving my money for a custom build with you. Have the idea in my head, just need the coin in my pocket. Must be some kind of deep discount for a lost son of Scotland. Ya.......didn't think so.
