My, my, my--that one is beautiful! I do think the Finn shape with a single pickup has become a classic ACG combination, particularly as a fretless. It really emphasizes the lines and the woods, especially when you have the contrasting accents like this. I really like the sycamore with the walnut, and the matching backplate is a nice touch, too!

I just went out to look at the larger pictures over on the website, and noticed the sycamore(?) laminate under the headstock to match the accent layer on the body--very nice touch! I love seeing those sorts of little details on a custom instrument. Great work, Alan!

I like it! Definitely cool to see some of these designs done with slightly different/simpler wood combinations. With the ash body, this finish makes me think of a lot of the early MTDs I've played. It seems like this shape works very well as a bolt-on, too, which is certainly not true of all singlecut shapes.

Nice work, Alan!

I have to tell you, looking at the magnificent specimens in this little gallery is a bittersweet experience. On the one hand, my eyes appreciate the beauty of these fine instruments, but on the other hand there is no way in hell I will ever be able to afford one, and I doubt I will ever be good enough to warrant playing such a beautiful creation

Much respect for your great skills. Keep the art coming.

Hi
I don't think you should look at it that way at all. There is no playing level that has to be reached before you can buy/play one of my basses or any other builders instruments that I know of. If at the end of the day you like the bass find it good to play or helps you get where you are trying to get to then to be honest I don't see any other justification required. If someone else does not think you are good enough to own the bass that is their problem not yours and I would tell them to get lost.
I was never a great player but I had a few very good basses which I got a great deal of pleasure from and did not regret having them at all.
As to the price they might not be as expensive as you think, best way to be sure is to ask me:)
