Acme 2x12 prototype test

Awesome! I'm glad I got this thread bubbling again. Andy, I have to say that the first time I heard your Low B2s, they were being used as PA tops (!) Not only do I remember thinking "this is the best my bass has ever sounded from the FOH.. EVER!".. but we had several people (it was a charity Casino Night with lots of "who's who" from the community) come up to us with compliments on the sound.

I keep bugging you via email every 6 months or so about the status of these cabs because I'm so anxious to hear them. I've tried soooooooooo many cabs out there (lots of high end ones) and I can honestly say that NOTHING I've heard to this day outside of Studio Reference Monitors sound as accurate and uncolored as your Low B Cabs.

I hope you'll keep us posted!

Cool. I always like it when people like them enough to use them for PA.

One of the cleverest things i ever heard was from a guy who had a pair of my 1x10 cabs he was using for PA, along with a single 2x10 unit for his bass. He found that by adding just enough of his bass to the 1x10's, he could effectively have all four 10" woofers at his disposal for his instrument, without having to lug a 4x10 cab around!

The idea struck me as so clever that I wish I'd thought of it myself.

I'll do my best to let you know when I have the 212 cabs available. I do have some prototype here, but the special careens for the back aren't done yet. I only have one unit which has the both screens, and am waiting for the rest of them to be fabricated.

Thanks,
Andy

I talked to a guy today who said it's an Iphone problem, not Apple in general.

Incidentally, I was using an Apple IIGS when I designed the first Low B-2 system in the early '90's. When Apple converted to the Mac OS, they didn't provide a way to take any of my spreadsheets, which were extensive, from the Apple II's Appleworks to the Mac.

In other words, I was faced with having to rewrite all my speaker design spreadsheets, thanks to Steve Jobs. I've been using PC's ever since, and all my stuff is now in Excel, because I don't want to be left by the side of the road again...

Now, because Steve Jobs had a problem with Adobe Flash, some of the current Apple stuff is incompatible with Flash, and it's causing a lot of trouble for a lot of people.

Round and round we go, eh?

Andy

Ah, Apple devices. I have managed to avoid cell phones/tablets so far...

I'm surprised Apple didn't have a way to migrate your files if only in tab or comma delimited text. Not OK that MacOS versions of Clarisworks/Appleworks would not open older versions of their own files. Also, I thought Adobe was "teaching" Flash to understand touchscreens but I could be wrong. Workarounds seem to be an industry standard.

That said, I have my bones to pick with MS and Internet Explorer and regret having spent so many hours of my life torturing code to make web sites work with IE's non-code standards ways. </rant>

It was possible to migrate the contents of the cells using CSV and similar formats, but the actual formulas in the spreadsheets wouldn't go. I tried for almost a year. Of course, the Apple II Prodos OS was completely different than the Mac OS, but still, no need to throw loyal customers under the bus.

In fact, text and graphic files could be sent to the PC using communication software and a "null modem," but the spreadsheet formulas had to die. I swore I'd never go back to Apple.

I've heard similar rumors about Flash, and have high hopes...

I have to admit to more than a modicum of jealousy here. As a fervent Acme user, you can see my B2 Series one pair in my avatar, I would love to be able to play though of of Andy's new cabinets!!! <sigh> Why does all the good stuff come along AFTER I retire and can no longer afford new stuff on my OA pension???

AAArrrgggghhhhh!!!! :vomit:
