Acme Full Range Series III 112

Had a nice little email chat with Andy yesterday. Nice cat. I enjoy being back in contact with him after all these years. Similar to Duke, he really seems to love what he is doing, and is very (and justifiably) proud of his designs.
Used my B112 at rehearsal last night. It started off with some snickers about the cab's name and small size. I got a "Damn, thats an ugly cab!" from one of the guitarists. It was gonna take some doing to win them over. We usually start the night off with some off the cuff free jamming, and right out of the gate the acme sounded great. We were playing at low volumes, and the Flatwound retained all of its fullness. We normally struggle a bit to get dialed in with our levels, but last night was different. Instead of trying to cut through the mix I was able to hang out in the low end of the frequency range. I was able to hear myself and each of the guitars more clearly all while using less volume. The lead player actually thought I had the 810 plugged in too, its just that full down low. I have yet to try it in a high spl context, but I can't imagine that a pair would not cover my needs. The more time I spend with this box the more I like it. Thanks for the initial review Ken, without it I never would have found this beauty!
Very cool. It is a 'funky looking' cab, but I've grown to really dig it. I'll be cranking it up in full band, moderate size room, no PA support pop gig Saturday, and will have a very good feel as to max volume versus other cabs I own by Sunday!
Enjoy the box. I would think two of them would literally cover just about anything that 90% of players would need regarding max volume, given enough power.
+1. It took me a little while to get adjusted to its voice, but the more time I spend with my 112 Full Range the more I like it. It now has enough hours of use (just got it late last week) that it's just beginning to open up very, very nicely. A really cool cab.
These cabs look fantastic! Your clips are great Ken, and this thread is great for info on these bad boys.

KJung, I can't stop listening to your SL+Acme clip. I can't quite feel the love for the TC, but I'm drooling over SL+Acme. I was looking for a smaller cab to pair with my M6 head, but find my GAS pulling me toward the SL. Any thoughts on that rig with either of my Warwicks: Thumb 5BO and Corvette $$, each with flats (Sadowsky and Chromes)? I'm assuming I'd like the Flatwound cab sound, but considering going Full Range, since it is easier to dial trebble back, than add what isn't there.
The M6 is much brighter than the SL, but has PLENTY of power do drive a 4ohm Acme12 to full performance. I would think the Flatwound with that head, which would provide plenty of top end 'crunch' if you want it, would sound great.
The FullRange tweeter is really present, and with that M6, it would probably be a bit too much up top, and sometimes dialing down the treble control doesn't really give you the same vibe as just eliminating the tweeter.
If you were going with a stack, the fullrange/flatwound would probably work well, since it would effectively dial down the tweeter given the extra woofer.

Ken's impression will be more educated than mine, but this thought occurs to me: You'd probably want the tuning frequencies of the two cabs to be pretty close, so that you aren't getting cancellation in the low bass region. My suggestion would be to use one port plug on the Thunderchild if you're going to pair it with the Acme 112 Fullrange. I don't know what the tuning frequency of the Fullrange is but it's probably fairly low. One port plugged would tune the Thunderchild to about 37 Hz, which is probably a lot closer to the Fullrange than with the normal 50 Hz tuning.
By the way, congratulations to Andy Lewis on what is obviously a very well designed and executed bass cab.

I can't really try this, since I don't have a 2ohm capable head, but every bone in my body says it doesn't make much sense. The cabs are just so different, and each does what it was meant to do about as well as possible. Every frequency range (lows, mids, highs) sounds different between the two cabs to me, and the efficiency is also quite different.
I agree with this. I do have a 2 ohm head and at one point I considered mixing the Thunderchild and Acme. I decided against it because of the very different voices of the cabs.
forgive my ignorance but can you stack these on their side instead of vertical? the only reason i ask is because my head is in a 2 space skb rack and i don't like the aesthetics of the head hanging over the sides
I first responded thinking you are asking about the Thunderchild. With the Acme's, I don't think orientation would make any difference with these.

I got confused on whether you were asking about the Thunderchild or the Acme.
With the Acme, zero issue I think. With the Thunderchild, even though you 'could' do it, the design of that relatively low crossed over horn would result in you losing the upper midrange dispersion advantage of the design.
