ACME LOW B-2? replace my 1x18?

It is about as accurate as you can get from a bass cab when within its SPL limits. So it is both tight, well-damped and uber-controlled but also pillowy, wide and all-encompassing - the former in the upper octaves of the bass region, the latter in the lowest octave. True deep lows are inevitably pillowy, wide and all-encompassing because that is the nature of deep bass, wherever it comes from.

300 watts per speaker is my rule. but even then, i've found that the acmes sound fine with whatever amp from a thunderfunk to an aguilar ag500, all the way down to a 60 watt alessandro basset hound.

again, because of the rather neutral relaxed lack of voicing in the acme cabs, the B2 might seem rather soft sounding, and yea, that bass is rather pillowy and wide.

extra horsepower usually gives you a more stout tone, but the best option is just a nice workin of some EQ to get the sound you're after.

course, its amazing at how easy it is to dial in a great sound w/ the acmes. no inherent voicing to battle against to get what you need.

I have actually compared the two cabs side by side. My Big Ben has an EV 18BX, which has a lot of cut for an 18, so that has to be taken into consideration. It was actually quite amazing how much low end the Acme could put out. Competed solidly with the 18. Lows were a little tighter sounding. Plus there was the added detail and clarity to the upper mids and treble frequencies. Ultimately I stuck with the Big Ben because I could drive it harder and get a little more volume out of it, and I could live with out the highs the Acme added. I can understand why most people wouldn't go the same direction I did, though. The Acmes are great sounding cabs.

When I use 2, I put mine end on end.

I don't think I would pair an Acme with other cabs. Because of the likely sensitivity mis-match, I'm not sure it would be a satisfying pair-up. Now other cab manufacturers habit of over-stating their sensitivity ratings may make it more feasible then it first appears.

I should pair one up with my 15" Carvin LS1503, which I really dig by itself, for a test.

Would it take a B2 or a B4 to match a 1503 for efficiency?

I'm very curious about the acme cabs and at some point will probably pick up a B4. My main rig is a 1523 with kappa 3015LFs in it, and sometimes an 18 underneath.

I suspect it would take 2xB4's to match the 1523 in all but the very low end though, given the 94db sensitivity of the acmes.

I never checked the listed sensitivity for the Aguilar s210. In my limited experience up to this point, it is definitely louder than the acme, but it doesn't overpower it.

I've upgraded the 15" driver to a 3015LF and it really sounds awsome as a standalone bass cab, not quite as much low end extension as the Acmes, but a great, loud tone in a single cab anyway.

There are a couple guys on here that have used the Acme as pa cabs... and regular hi-fi speakers too.
