Acme Low B2 users

Wow...just...wow.

I'm presently in the process of picking up what's left of my jaw off the floor after receiving my first Acme cab. These things are for real. If there are any of you who have any hesitation about buying something sight unseen, don't worry they won't disapoint.

After I got it I set it up alongside by beloved Eden D410T of 14 years. It was a delayed reaction at first when I plugged in and started some exercises. I thought hmmm, Acme...nice and CLEAR. One slap and I could hear every nuance and harmonic overtone of the semi-new strings I had on. Nice, I thought. Mids are a bit shy, highs need some tweaking. The bottom was HUGE AND RICH, almost indescribably so...Ineffable if you will.

Then I hooked up the old 410 and tried the same stuff. GOD....that's when it hits you! All I heard was a boxy sound, lacking in all that extra detail. I'm a convert now. Now I understand what Hi-Fi means. :D

I'll be interested to hear your comments in a gig situation. I too found the Acme's to sound GREAT at home... but the Eden sound totally dominated them on a gig (IMO)... your comments on the mids being shy and the highs needing tweeking sums up my reason for eventually selling my Acmes. However, I hope it works great for you.. they are cool and unique.

I'm inclined to agree with your comments on the mids and highs, but a bit moreso for folks using/wanting a single cabinet. I find two Acme cabinets to be a bit better in this regard. In either case a little tweak of EQ easily solves any deficiencies.

Four B2 cabinets (thats 8x10"s 4x6"s and 4x tweeters) with the appropriate amount of power is right at the top of my list of favorite live setups. :ninja:

Caveat: of course it depends on what you're personally after. Flatwounds vs. rounds and choice of bass etc. will obviously cause mileage to vary somewhat...

I really would like to try those four B2's with your AG750 running at 2ohms... I think that's how you explained to me that you run it. While I sometimes had a problem covering gigs with one or two... I think four would have done it:D

Sorry... I need to stay off the Acme threads... I do like the sound for the most part though, and that four pack with the DB750 must be the 'voice of you know who'.

OK....Mea culpa:)

PS We had a blast at Tom's last night... lot's of amazing stuff!

That's what it was... the CA9. I keep getting that mixed up with your 750 and that they are 4ohm and not 8ohm. Must be awesome.

Anyway, I can't even imagine the wump coming out of that.

When Acme users say "you have to re-think your EQ", what does this mean?

Using the same amp with the old speaker cab, how was the EQ set and how does it differ using the Acme.

My SWR SM900 usually has all the controls set at 12 noon when I'm going through my Yorkville 2x10 & 1x15,... what would be expected for me to tweak if I ran it through 2 - B2s?

Well..it's been all day and I'm really diggin the clarity and the low end b@lls this thing has so far! but I'll definitely need two for most gigs.

Just called my guitarist over and he just loves it. And it especially seems to really kick serious bum when I'm soloing the bridge on my Jazz. Fat luscious Jaco burpiness all over the place.:p

So far, all I had to adjust on my F2-B is turning down the bass a notch, and turn down the tweeter -2db, that's about it for now. No comparison with the Eden, No comparison at all.:)

I play 5-string (G&L and Godin A5) through an Acme B1 (4 ohm). Sounds great to me, but I don't do any loud gigs. I use a Clarus head. Upright sounds fine with this rig too.

I bought the B1 because I wanted the low B coverage for my 5-ers.

This is my second day of owning one--no live use yet---so take it for what it's worth:

Probably the bass (turning down) and in some region of midrange (turning up). On the cab I attenuated the tweeter about 2db and left the midrange driver up full.
Because the woofers in these units are designed to maniacally reproduce true bass response, it seems the flatter the better with EQing these cabs.

Seriously... as an Acme owner (and the original owner of at least one of BillyB's Acme's...:smug:), I hope you're not taking "breaking in" to mean "warming up". The breaking in process should be a "several day affair" before any high volume playing out... not at all like a "several minute stretch" before your morning jog.:)

Just trying to help you enjoy that new Acme to it's fullest potential.
