Acoustic Bass Neck Crack

Alright so I got a couple buds who work over at GC, they were gonna toss this acoustic bass because there is a crack in the neck, its not that bad actually, so I am gonna go get it checked out on how much it would cost to repair, in the mean time, should I loosen the strings? take them off? i would figure that leaving the neck with tension will only make it worse....any ideas? also if it costs a lot to get the neck repaired is there a certain glue and clamp I would need to get??? Thanks a lot fellow tb'ers...

I would definitely loosen the strings!

So what can you tell us for now? Make/model? Description of the crack?

IME, just about anything can be fixed. Worst case is to completely remove the neck and (hopefully) get another from the original manufacturer and have it professionally reinstalled.

The real question is, is it worth it to invest the time or the money compared to just buying a new one?
