I like him playing both to be honest, I can't choose between the two, have you heard 'silent life' or 'The word', I got them from Amazon and paid about £25 for each one, but they're amazing albums.

yeah, I nearly took "The Silent Life" for £25 but scooped it for £8 on a lucky day! I've spent a bit on Hellborg's records over the years..."Bass" and "Elegant Punk" both cost me £25!
I've seen the guitarron mentioned a couple of times in this thread. Does anyone have any experience playing with these things? I've never seen the guitarron used outside of mariachi music, but at the end of the day, it's still a stringed bass instrument. Just curious.
I got Adfa from ebay a couple of weeks ago for about £8, plus a couple of pounds for postage from the US, I haven't got Bass or Elegent punk, they're the only ones I haven't got though.
I don't have Adfa but I've been tracking it for a while, looking out for it popping up for sale!
Elegant Punk is incredible though, really beautiful stuff. Bass is a bit patchy, definitely a collectors record because some of the tunes are a bit rough.
I have a Michael Kelly Club 4 Custom ABG. It gets a lot of use in my room as a practice piece. I have had it for one year and still use the bronze d'addario strings that came on it from the factory. They are probably pretty dead but I love the sound out of this thing. Very warm and woody tone.
I will agree that I find it very hard to play with a guitarist or two. Finger volume isn't too high, but to be honest if I wanted to I could gig with it mic'd.

I play fingerstyle blues... + Cream, Zeppelin, Hendrix...
I've currently got Rotosound RS44LD Phosphor Bronze strings on... a bit zingy with the finger noise...
I'm intending to try nylon tapewound flats on it, but I would have to get the nut slots widened for that...
I understand Thomastik do some nylon cored phosphor bronze roundwounds, but I'm not sure what the gauge size for those are as the gauges given on strings direct seemed too thin... ahh... just found Thomastik's own catalog... the strings are:
G:0.041
D:0.053
A:0.068
E:0.086
I'd have to get a nut job done for those as they'd rattle in the current nut slots...

I've currently got an order in with my local guitarshop for one of the tanglewood gigbags... so I'll investigate getting the order changed...

The TI Acousticores are not only thin, but have low tension. Nice tone, but the low tension translates into lower acoustic volume.
I'm using LaBella Black Nylon Tapewounds on my Takamine B-10.

Acousticores were specifically designed to excel with a piezo bridge. Acoustic output is not their forte.

I contacted Tanglewood directly about the case. Apparently, they just started to produce hard cases for our bass - they're made somewhere in America. I had to wait over a month for the shipment, but it finally arrived last Friday so I should get my case in 5-10 days.

The acoustic is great for practicing. Some time, invite your guitar players to bring acoustics and do a non-electric practice. You'll be surprised at some of the subtleties in the music you can hear that way.
To amplify an acoustic, you should know that most acoustics use piezo pickups which have a different impedence than standard magnetic pickups. If you connect the bass directly to an amp, it may sound tinny and nasty. If that's the case, you will need an impedence converter between the bass and the amp. An ART TubeMP works fine, and many other devices that also serve as preamps will serve the same function.

I got myself a Zoom A2.1U to use with my acoustic bass... it has several different input "pads" for handling the different pickups found on acoustic guitars. Several very nice guitar models... a few useful effects, onboard limiter/compressor, eq, reverb, amp modeling, and the one thing I really got it for was the automatic feedback canceling feature. Just hit the external footswitch and it hunts down and attenuates the offending frequency.
