acoustic bass

good evening all
Ive been playing bass for about 1.5 years and its time to get something decent .
now ,I'm going to study and I'll be living in a apartment with lots of other students so I can't use an electric bass .
that's why I decided to get an acoustic one.
My price range isn't that big ( 500 euro ) .of course I would like it to sound as bassy as possible and if possible i would like to be able to jam with my friend who has an acoustic guitar .
all idea's are welcome

why cant you have electric? Nobody said the amp had to be up loud, when i practice in my house full of old people i have my amp on 3.

Maybe a Washburn AB10 is a good electro/acoustic bass for you. Is a good bass, great sound, very nice & you can find it right now for $480.00 (I don't know how much is this in euro) This bass are used by much pro's in the Mtv Unplugged. Check it out.

Problem is, even with an acoustic guitar jam, you'll still need an amp with an acoustic bass. Better with an electric, and a very small amp.

You'll trade the amp for a giant acoustic bass with a case that's twice as big as a regular bass case.

Electric bass, small amp with head-phone output and a set of headphone is what I'd go with. Perfect if you can get an amp with an 'audio-in' too then you can play along to stuff from your iPod/mp3 player (assuming you have one that is).

IMHO, unless you ride a tricycle, you don't want to be cycling with any sort of guitar on your bike - a real hazard to the guitar, yourself and other road users.

Also, if you're playing with other folks, as per RickenBoogie chances are you're going to need an amp for the acoustic bass. Acoustic bass is all about tone, but not necessarily volume.

I know what the OP is talking about. Bass notes carry more than any other in certain types of housing – I've received (polite) complaints from neighbors at night, even when I could barely hear the bass in my own room (and I mean barely!). I think treble notes bounce back at you from the walls, but bass notes go right through into the next room.

My suggestion would be to get a good pair of comfortable headphones.
