I've owned half dozen or so abg's and the only one that even came close to cutting it was a Breedlove solo. Was fine with 2 guitars, mandolin and banjo. More than that, I plugged in. Getting ready to list 1 I don't use PM if you like good luck. The ernie ball is great, but good luck finding one

Acoustic Basses Volume, Tone and Wow!

There is an acoustic bass that does that. It's called an upright (or string) bass.

Me too....one corner of my closet sized room is upright bass. I hear you...but it is the only acoustic answer to the question!

Oh god!! I'm not sure which is worse their inability to independently get to a gig with the basics (clutch, snare, hh and thrown) or their constant complaining that the kit isn't provided for them. You know the question I'm sure, what do I bring to the gig? I don't mind helping but I do mind baby sitting.

The big old earthwoods are your best shot at doing it acoustically. I believe that's Brian Ritchie's main instrument. Still not a guarantee with several instruments and hand drums. You might also look into Mariachi style Guitarron, never played one myself but they sure look fun. Rather than struggling to keep up, an inexpensive battery powered PA can add all the support you need with acoustic instruments, and if you want an acoustic bass heavy on wow, this one has it, my apologies that the intonation wasn't great, I have to make an updated video now that I can play the thing
At one point I had a cello and tuned it like a bass. It was magical in the parks. I loved it!!! One day it fell over and shattered like glass.

Ohana OBU-22FLM (the M means fretless with fret line Marks- I wouldn't want an unlined one, because the side dots are not properly placed, they are placed as if it were fretted). I have also played the fretted version, a student of mine bought one after she tried mine. it's awesome too, but I'm glad I have the fretless, definitely adds to the charm.

When I was in Mexico, I sat in with a Mariachi group playing what ever they call their bass guitar. It was large, and rather non-descript, even crude by our standards, but it was loud enough to overcome too very loud trumpers and two guitarists. Didn't appear to be a very expensive instrument. The guy said it was made by some guy out side of Mexico City, and cost about $200 American. And yes, it has flat wound strings on it...lol!
Ok it called a guitarron, and there is one for sale on Amazon for $400. Short neck however.

I paid right around $500 IIRC, seems to be the going price. The fretted ones seem easier to find.
I had one that made into the campfire. I was drunk and pissed (same thing in some countries) and at the end of the night, I Pete Townsended the no-name pawnshop P.O.S. ABG I'd picked up for $75 on the way to the campsite into the campfire then watched it burn. I'd purchased it to be an instrument I wouldn't have to worry about, but I wasn't thinking it was going to be that disposable. This was done partially out of irritation, but intentionally and in a humorous way, not a black out drunk. I don't want to be logging into an intervention when I get home from the gig later tonight!
To answer the OP, as many have already, no. I have Thunderchief that I've tried several modifications on and it still needs to be amplified and has the electronics to do so. Unless you're willing to look at some of the more esoteric options mentioned here. That little amp will be your ticket to audibility.
Ernie Ball Earthwood bass, i own one and when played with a pick and fresh strings it's unstoppable (till beyond the 12th fret). I have to tone it down when playing acoustically.

i play drums in a condo by using an electronic kit with the quietest components i could find. i have drummer buddies who rented rooms to play in in industrial areas where the drumming doesn't bother anyone or who rent small, cheaper lockouts.
