Acoustic Basses worth it?

I bought a Teton (STB130FMGHBCENT). I play along with a singer who strums a Martin D-35, and sometimes I'm a bit to loud ;-}. When we are accompanied by a percussionist, we plug in - otherwise we're all acoustic.

One day I went to rehearsal without a cable or wireless (doh), so I stood in front of the drummer while playing the Teton. I was heard by both the singer and the drummer. I'd say that's loud enough.

I also have a Roland MicroCube - it's great, too.

disclaimer - I'm firstly a keyboard player, and very much of a beginner on bass. But I learn quickly....

My local music shop carries Teton guitars, so I’ve had a go at a bunch of them over the years. They’re good instruments—nice sound, well made, attractive—that offer particularly good bang for the buck.

Glad to hear that, fermata. when I began looking into the acoustic bass market, I started off thinking I would NOT be buying a Chinese-made one. However, brands such as Martin and Warwick are not in stock at the shops in my town.

When I played the Teton, I was pleased with it's sound and feel, plus it was sale priced (post-Christmas). I think it's a pretty good deal. The only thing about it that I would change is the scale length. My Peavey Unity is 34", the Teton is 32". As I'm still a beginner, switching from one to the other takes me a bit of time to adjust.

I'd like to add that learning to play the acoustic, which is rather un-forgiving, has greatly improved my technique on the electric.

My recent finding. TL;DR: cheap bluetooth speaker could greatly improve your acoustic bass bonfire volume.

Just tested my acoustic bass wired to this cheap $20 portable Bluetooth speaker.

Acoustic bass sounds great, since it has a preamp. Loud and clear.
For the sake of comparison I've connected my 6-string passive LP-like guitar to the same speaker. While it was quieter, sound level was acceptable. I think if I'd use a proper 1/4 TS - 1/8 TRS cable mentioned above in the thread, it would be louder. Unfortunately, I don't have such a cable yet, but I can solder it myself.

Moreover, with a right cable and Bluetooth audio transmitter you can even go wireless.
