Hey folks of Talkbass.
I have just come into possession of a lovely Acoustic Control 150. This is the guitar version w/ reverb and tremolo. I'll be using this with Am Fender P and my poor hacked up Sterling Sub copy.
I'm currently looking for some pointers on good speaker recommendations for this head.
I have done a few searches and there seems to be a decent-ish amount of info on acoustic stuff here, but I decided to make a new post mainly because I'm on the other side of the pond in the UK to a lot of TB users who are in the states. Acoustic stuff seems a lot more readily available in the US, you lot tend to get all the good stuff(!) like the 106 cab that was usually matched for the bass version of the 150. Just wondered what the general consensus is for these pieces of kit, what to look out for. I'm guessing something in the same ball-park as the 106 cab like a 2x15 would be a good fit.
I have a general feel for the Amp based on post and the way its been explained etc, so I'm aware of its limits, its a 70s SS head so its not going to fill a massive concert hall. Its also doesn't go down to 2OHMs like its big brother 360/370 could. I can probably expects at least 125-150 watts, as the old Acoustic tends to be conservatively rated. I see a lot of consensus on using an EQ/highpass to control the bottom end a bit more on these old models.
So have at you Talkbass, what are some good picks? Even some unorthodox answers I'd be interested to here. I'm in London and theres a fair bit of Ampeg Speaker stuff close by on evilbay, there an ISOVENT and an SVT808 not far.
FYI I'm sans any bass gear. This is my first head in a while and got it for a good price. Finances in years prior haven't been great, I've sold a lot of stuff off, I was using a Sound City 50 for a long time with a 2x12 cab. Heavy as owt but was very Who Live at Leeds when cranked.
