Acoustic fridge?

Well my band is booked to play the biggest venue around, a 1500 seat theater, opening for Minus the Bear. First thing on the agenda is some more speakers! Option one is to get a second 410, but i really want a fridge... How is the Acoustic B810? The reason it caught my interest is because it looks different than everyones Ampeg fridges, i like the unique aspect of that. Also, they can be had quite a bit cheaper. What are your experiences with them? I dont really expect it to be Ampeg quality, but thats ok with me. I'm playing through a GK BL600 head.

i once ab'd a new b810, a markbass cl108, and an ampeg svt 810e at a store, and imho the b810 came in 3rd. it is not a bad cab...it actually has a pleasing tone to it, but compared to the ampeg, it couldn't hang. there's a reason you still see way more ampegs than acoustics out there.

I'm using a Peavey TVX 410. Not exactly cream of the crop, but along with the GK and some tube emulation it gets nice 'n dirty. Jimmy, what are the tonal and volume differences compared to a 810e?

And yeah getting to open for a band of that size is one of the coolest opportunities i've had :)

Sounds like your just looking for an excuse to upgrade.

Opening for a national act usually means a nice size PA, with good monitors. You could play that gig with a combo amp.

Of course its an excuse to upgrade! Who says new gear is a bad thing? I like big amps. I like to feel the sound. I like stage presence. Big amps are fun, period.

And the venue is the D&R Theater in Aberdeen.

I've been keeping an eye on craigslist, but havent seen any Ampegs in the 600 range lately.

For that size venue make sure you have a big pa with subs and mains. Run everything into the pa and use the amps mainly for stage volume.

I agree you don't need a big cab for a pro show. The PA will do all the work. But if you want one, just get one.

local Craigslist has two listed today:

$650 [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

$750 [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
don't know about the $750 cab, but the guy said the $650 cab was new last year. that's the one i'd go for. newer 810e's are much better than usa made 810e's imho.

volume differences? no clue. tonal differences...bigger bottom end, more pleasing high end, etc. like i said it's not bad, it's just not ampeg level.

What Jimmy meant to write was, get a portaflex and mic it. :hiding: That'll show those Minus The Bear guys how it's really done... :)

I was thinking of a Minus the Bear tribute band but I couldn't get a guitarist or drummer to join a band called 'Minus The Beer' :D

ahh,mm killin' me over here!
