cool thing, the onboard EQ's to my basses REALLY shine thru in an almost exaggerated fashion. as if there's nothing inherently EQ'ed in the amp or cabs that would fight the EQ'ed sounds of the bass.
As I've stated on the double bass side of things. I've found
that putting a little stomp box eq (boss geb-7) through the
effects loop, lets me add just a touch of extra lows and
highs. This really seems to open the amp up a tons. It
almost seems to come to life a bit more. I like it. I like it.

I'm sure you could find one, but unless you're in the studio,
the Blue might be overkill. I'm talkin cheap and good. It really
just takes a little bump of frequency to make my focus sing

I love my Focus. My other amps have been collecting dust since I started using it.
I bought a Clarus from Joker not too long ago, and I found that I love the AI tone way more than any "colored" amp tone. I could finally hear that incredible tone of my basses, and it was loud and clear.
However, the little Clarus wasn't enough for my big gigs, so on to the Focus I went (the Clarus is sitting happy with my dad and his double bass with a schroeder mini 12"). The Focus still gets a little warm after an hour long set (I usually have the volume up around 12 o'clock when I'm playing with my Schroeder 310212), however it's never faltered and the tone is great. In some rooms, it loses it's treble cut, but with a little tweak of the horn on my cab and a slight blend to the piezo's on my bass, and I've got it back.
I am squirming looking at that picture of the Series III and I'm now officially saving for one.

but i still need a good semi parametric. for one of the bands i work, its mostly praise/worship stuff in... well... churches! so, high ceilings make for awfully boomy rooms, and simply cutting low end is not something i enjoy doing.
i'm still waiting for the AI guys to make a simple no fuss, 1U rack with two 600 watt Foci on either side that i can use with my DB680 or HBP-1. they have the tech, why cant they just implement it?!?!?!?!?!

I AB'd my Focus and a WT-400 the other night. I love my Focus but I am saving my pennies to add a WT-550 to my arsenal...and that's alot of pennies, so I'd better start now.
The Focus has a wonderful, crystal clear tone. But it really only has ONE sound which can be tweaked to taste. I've experimened with different outboard gear into the Focus, but I have never found anything as good as the sound you get from just going into Focus' preamp. That said, the Focus is the bomb for doubling on BG/DB. It is really voiced perfectly for upright, and it also seems to work some mojo on fretless BG's. It's just a great, flat sound. The weight and headroom is also tops.
The WT-400 (haven't got my hands on a 550...yet) is mucho more flexible and gives up a nice warm coloration. The attraction to me is the ability to dial in a 3-D low midrange that will hit you in the stomach a little bit...something I've not been able to coax out of the Focus. I really loved playing with the parametric EQ and am starting to see the wisdom in having one.
To me, having both makes sense...especially if you're a doubler.

I have an iAMP 500 and that is what I do. For country gigs, straight iAMP for that clean thump. For rock gigs, SansAmp BDDI for the SVT tone.SteveC said:
