Acronyms

Few years ago, I am working with & requesting a Frequency assignment from JFMOLANT (jeff-mo-lant).
In a meeting with some upper management yahoos...one of them, probably a GS-15...wants me to ask Mr. Molant how much longer is this request going to take.

Back when I was a young rapscallion that knew more than my bosses, some colleagues and I had something we called a “jimmy file” - the name we gave to some inane and useless tasking....the opposite of a “red file”.

Well, that evolved into something we called the “JMF Converter” - code for what we thought could be a clever workaround to an inane and useless tasking, which usually meant going for beers instead. As in, “we’ll run that through the JMF Converter and see what come out the other end”.

I guess the grownups thought we were pretty smart though, what with our high tech problem solving devices and all. In a project meeting once, someone up the ranks thought that we should run the data through the JMF Converter to overcome a particular problem.

We sure bamboozled him! Or perhaps he WAS smart and was just on to us.....;-)

I recently received a text from a co-worker. There was a problem with a client and he ended the story with SMDH. I now know what it means because I asked.

If anybody can guess the correct answer they win the BAG award! (Best Acronym Guesser)

Well, then I was lied to my whole life - which isn't much of a surprise, really. The military was very good at that. That does make more sense; which is a surprise in itself. And, being a Civil Engineer Squadron type, I never had to do those fun daily FOD walks, anyway...

I respectfully disagree, sir. I don't remember being able to pronounce the word being a condition. I will go check my Funk & Wagnalls and if I am wrong I am SOL! :laugh:
