active/passive switch for preamp

I plan on installing a passive/active dpdt switch on a bass using this diagram. will there be a loud "pop" when I switch between the two? If so is there a way to prevent it? The "input jack" on the diagram will be the signal from the pickups

It depends on how much signal is being passed (gain), I believe. Chances are if you mute the bass (hold the strings) while you switch you'll hear very litte, with ringing strings you might get a slight crackle but it will probably be drowned out.

If it is an issue, I believe the fix is to add a cap inline with the ground side of the switching, though I may be wrong about that - more experienced TBers feel free to correct me.

what value cap, I have a bunch laying around. I'll try it with or without cap for comparison

Just try what you have around, for a circuit without high voltages the value probably won't make a difference. You may have to try it on different sides of the switch and see what works best.
Also if you are still getting switching noise it's probably more so a grounding issue, which I find tends to cause most of the problems with small systems like this.
