Active/passive switch installation

Hi all,

I recently bought jazz bass clone with an active pre-campaign but the bass doesn't have a way of switching between active passive settings.

Wondering what is the best method of installing that feature, whether it be swapping the electronics on the volume pot or installing a small switch itself.
Also would need to know what the best options are for that electronics wise and if I would need anything else.

I replaced the vol pot on my Stingray 5 with a push/pull (or a push/push) pot with a DPDT switch. This allowed me to select the usual active mode, or a passive mode direct out.

No extra holes required.

Right idea but select the value of the original pot.

Check the original value stamped on it, and replace with the same value if you can. This maintains the active option exactly as before.

You are adding a switch to divert both PUs output to the output jack. I only had 1 PU to switch, whereas you have 2. Replacing the tone pot may be easier. Some preamps are mounted on a pot. Replace a pot that's not integral to the preamp. The choice depends on your existing configuration. Take photos of the original wiring and post.

I relied on active for live, passive for recording. My passive mode was vol only. Your passive mode could be both PUs full out - a classic Jazz scooped sound, if that's interesting, Search jazz bass active passive etc.

Unless you can find a complementary wiring diagram, I would take it to a repair shop. It's not a big job, providing you can find an option and get parts.

Otherwise convert to passive only
