Yes, a headless 5, 32" scale with active pre-amp would be very nice.
Gotta get some manufacturers on board.
Price is always an issue.

This one meets the two criteria:

Ibanez SRC6

It's a 30" scale, it has 3-band active EQ, and it costs nowhere near $2,000 (plus it's a 6 string tuned E to E like a Bass VI, which I'm sure not the thing you're after... ).

The Ibanez Mezzo is 32" and active. That's medium scale I suppose.

What intrigues me about it is the tighter string spacing, as well as the short scale. When I play with a pick I always wish the spacing was tighter.

Joe, I don't know of any in the reasonably priced category (to me <1000$ is reasonable), however; you could easily have a less expensive one professionally modded with any pre-amp/pickups you wanted for a reasonable cost. Just something to consider.

I have an SWB-1. Mine is a passive model since I'm not big on active basses in general. But the build quality and playability is superb.

I was feeling a little bored. So I put a set of piccolo bass strings on my SWB just to have something different to play. And that's opened up a whole new realm of musical inspiration for me.
