Active short scale basses

Does it need to be active from the factory? I've got a modded ibanez Mikro 5 string that has EMG active circuits, it's pretty slick!
There's only the fretless version of this in stock now at Rondo:

However they make a fretted one also...5 string, active, short scale, 24 fret neck. I picked one up a few months ago. Good value for the price like most of their stuff.

Warwick has a short scale rock bass corvette and Musicman also announced a Stingray short scale and apparently a sterling version is coming as well.
I believe Maruszczyk offers them. And playing around with their "configurator" is ultra-fun

Maybe not helpful but have you considered going the preamp pedal route? Then you could use any bass.
You can equip any short scale bass with active electronics if you so wish. Adds just a bit of extra effort of course but then you'll achieve exactly what you desire.
Yeah, but they are running in the $2K range. OP is staying away from that range. But I do think they are nice!

I really want to say, you suck!!! But I can't. I asked for it, and I got it. I have bad pains in my chest right now. Bad ones!
That's a given. Already on my list. It has to happen for me. I plan to put in my order as soon as I sell off a few more basses. Already sold my Stingray that I couldn't play anymore cuz of my back. Loved that bass to pieces, but it hasn't been touched in years and I still have a Sterling 5 HS, which does everything the Stingray did, plus give me a few extra notes.
I've already got a Huntington 3 sitting next to me. I thought the 3 pickups would give me everything under the sun... but I was a tad surprised. It's got an old school vibe to it that doesn't give me what I've gotten used to with my Fenders and Musicmans. It feels and sounds great, just a bit darker than I expected. I may need to just give it a little more time. Not rushing to get rid of it just yet.

I have an SWB-1. Mine is a passive model since I'm not big on active basses in general. But the build quality and playability is superb.
I was feeling a little bored. So I put a set of piccolo bass strings on my SWB just to have something different to play. And that's opened up a whole new realm of musical inspiration for me.

Yes, but TMB30 is passive only. So, it still needs electronic upgrade to comply to OP's criteria.

.Threw Geezers in it. Sounds great. I can't put a D tuner on it though so I can't use it with my band.

even if slap was something I could never really get into that much. However I do find it listenable when Mark King or Marcus Miller do it. He's the bass player for Big Country in case you didn't know. Funny thing for me was I found out about him through his signature bass rather than the other way around.
