WHAT A DAMN BAND ! !

And, as you probably know, Manning is part of a group of long-time Beck collaborators along with TB's own JMJ--who's been St. Vincent's bassist and MD for a bit. Falkner's worked with Beck as well, albeit less frequently; he was on bass the one time I saw Beck around 2002 and he's played some guitar and bass on a couple of his albums. Those guys generally haven't been on Beck albums in a while, but JMJ said recently in his forum here that they're all working together on a new record.

Didn't @jmjbassplayer and Falkner perform the Bass Battle in Scott Pilgrim?

I seem to remember that Scott is playing a Rickenbacker in the scene, and ex-Superman is playing a Mustang, but in the recording session improvisation JMJ is playing a Rickenbacker (portraying Scott) and beats Jason (portraying ex-Superman) playing a Mustang - which obviously doesn't work for the scene, where Scott looses (Spoiler!).

In the finished film, the audio was swapped around, so the onscreen Mustang is the sound of JMJ on the Ric, and the onscreen Rickenbacker is the sound of Jason on the Mustang.

Boston had a lot of great bands at one time, Boston rocked.

The Real Kids

The Atlantics

Willy Alexander and The Boom Boom Band - Toured with Elvis Costello and got booed off the stage almost every night, I knew their soundman, I thought they were great,

The Rings

Gary Shane and the Detour

The Neighborhoods

Mission of Burma- they got known in a certain musical segment.

Local bands? Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band. Strong local following, they caught the ear of a big time producer, Gary Katz of Steely Dan fame, and the story I heard was they blew through $100,000 with nothing new to show, because giving them $100,000 just fueled their debauchery. Truly unique act, vastly under appreciated. At present, another DMV gem is Vintage 18. R&B is a tough genre. If they were younger, they’d garner more interest. Finally, out of Annapolis is Pressing Strings. They should be nationwide.

They were played a lot on WBCN Boston, especially 'Boogie Till You Puke'. Those guys were great.

they were so much better than Hole, who they got compared to(or is it the other way around?).
They were compared, because Nymphs opened for Hole all over Hollywood.
They were so outrageous that they started getting banned from venues.
I was there for some of it, Courtney could barely play sometimes, pissed as a parrot.
