Acts that you thought would make it....

They were compared, because Nymphs opened for Hole all over Hollywood.
They were so outrageous that they started getting banned from venues.
I was there for some of it, Courtney could barely play sometimes, pissed as a parrot.
Weren’t The Nymphs before Hole? Or at least signed to a major before them? I moved to LA right about then, wasn’t keeping track, but I though The Nymphs were a bigger deal back then.

Boston had a lot of great bands at one time, Boston rocked.

The Real Kids

The Atlantics

Willy Alexander and The Boom Boom Band - Toured with Elvis Costello and got booed off the stage almost every night, I knew their soundman, I thought they were great,

The Rings

Gary Shane and the Detour

The Neighborhoods

Mission of Burma- they got known in a certain musical segment.

I saw The Atlantics open for Roxy Music on the Manifesto tour, liked them, bought the “One Last Night” single. But as part of that new wave/power pop wave, like The Records, they just didn’t quite have the je ne sais quoi to set them apart, and then the The Knack ruined that whole scene. Willie Alexander, similar to Jonathan Richman in his Velvets worship(and yes, I know he was in the last gasp line-up), was just too esoteric.

Ever hear their 2006 release- Dog Bar Yacht Club? Really good stuff.

Burma came back in the 00s with Bob Weston replacing Roger Swope (I assume the connection was made thanks to his time in Prescott's post-Burma band Volcano Suns). They weren't resting on their laurels either -- the new songs were even angrier than what they were writing in the 80s (especially on OnOffOn), and they were able to enjoy the success that eluded them the first time around, to some extent.

I thought the band Bile was going to be the next Ministry. Went to a see a show, they cancelled, never heard of them again. Not sure what happened.

Other band was Scatterbrain. Super talented. Not sure what happened.

Everyone wanted Courtney to play their venue & Pretty on the Inside was new & had a hit or two.
I thought Courtney & Inger were friends, but apparently Courtney really really doesn't like her.

It's weird looking back now, things that went on that gave me a completely different perspective of how things really were.
Rozz Williams would come to Helter Skelter late at night & I was quite sure he was fine with being called the godfather of West Coast Goth or Death Rock, but it turns out he was a denier just like Peter Murphy & Andrew Eldritch.

Turns out The Nymphs did some shows with Murphy.

Salem 66, a post-punk band from Boston

The Howl, led by ex-Fabulous Thunderbirds guitarist Troy Gonyea

Mallard, ex-members of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. Disbanded after two albums (only the second was released in the USA). Remind you of Little Feat at all?

The Vigilantes of Love...recorded for multiple labels (including Capricorn and Warner Bros.!!!) but threw in the towel in 2003

The Grand Slambovians (AKA Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams)....Tom Petty fronting Pink Floyd? Still active but under the radar

NRBQ still going after 50 years under the radar, albums for CBS, Mercury, Virgin and Rounder.
