Adding a pickup

I would like to add a single-coil pickup in the neck position to my Stingray 5-String. The reason for this would be to get a tone closer to a jazz bass (with both pickups on) when I have the selector switch in the mid-position. I have no interest in being able to select or control this pickup independently, nor have this pickup activate in position 1 (P-bass) nor positon 3 (humbucking). Ideally, I'd like to simply be able to switch to position 2 and have two single-coil pickups operating, with approximately equal current running through each, both sharing the volume control and tone circuit. I know that there is a phantom coil in parallel with the current pickup when position 2 is selected ("single coil"), so my proposed lineup would be placing three coils in parallel, which may be a problem. Can anybody suggest an appropriate pickup, and/or tell me if this can be done?

The best thing to do is sell your SR5,and get either an SR5HS,or SR5 HH.You'll kill the resale value as most folks prefer unmodified Music Man basses.The HS and HH versions give you lot's of coil combinations,including the one's you listed.

The mod you are thinking about will not make the SR5 sound anything like a jazz bass. It would most likely sound good just not like a jazz.

Chcek out a Lakland 55-02 which has the pickup combo you are looking for.

Also check out the youtube clips of Ed Friedland playing the newer SR5 HH with the coil splitting capability. It has the option to split both humbuckers into 2 single coils and it still sounds like a Musicman.
