Adding a second cabinet

Hey, to get straight to the point..

I have a Hartke LH1000 head, and an SVT-410HE, and when my band is practicing, I feel that I am being over powered by my guitarists Fender 100 FM Halfstack. Which is why I want to add another cab to my arsenal..

I was think of the SVT-15E, but it's only rated at 200w, and I think that my head will destroy that (well, in bridged mode--1000w @ 4 ohms).

Or my other option is to add another SVT-410HE.

Will the SVT-15 help with volume, or just give me more bottom end? Or both?

I know that the SVT-410 will add to volume, and I know I wouldn't have as much bottom end.

So what would you do in this situation?

Which is missing - volume or bottom (or both)? If volume, another 4x10 should fix that. If you need more bottom or both, a 15 should do you nicely.

Wait longer than a half hour and you will have more responses. Have you considered a 2x12?

i would personally go for another 410. the 15 may not do a whole lot for you, especially if you plan on slamming it with power and making it keep up with the existing 410. the 410 may acually produce more lows than the 15, too. mixing different speakers may not result in a desired sound. a lot of bassists do this and works great for them, but not me. with another 410 you will gain 3dB in low end through coupling and at least another 2-3dB in the amp's output. you will be a force to reckon with using that rig.

I'm looking for volume, but the bottom would just be a bonus, but I'm not seeking it

Maybe you should get a peavey cabinet. I find it to put out a very generous amount of volume, they last forever, and they are generally cheaper compared to ampeg.

I've encountered a lot of phase issues mixing speaker sizes in the past. I'd go 4x10.

I'm running 750 watts out of my mesa into 2 swr goliath 3 4x10's and competing with two guitars. one with a VHT pitbull 100 and a VHT 4x12 cab, and the other with a Line 6/Bogner with a Line 6 celestion vintage 30 4x12. to say it simply, I get asked to turn down. Iwould suggest another 4x10, I get plenty of bottom end from running 2. Ihad th same problem with 1 cab and you have enough wattage to run 2. Isaw your post about not liking your amp and was going to suggest this.

I would also recommend another 4x10. You'll push a lot more air with eight 10" speakers than a 4x10+1x15!

+1 on the 4x10. I have the SVT-810e and there's been occasions where I run with no PA support while the guitarists do, and I keep up with the PA easy.

Those 410he cabs handle 500 watts, unlike the 810, which handles 800RMS. You'll have a couple hundred watts on an 810, which means your amp bridged will be the RMS output of your cabs. I don't know if this is necessarily good, but I'd like it.

i used to play out of 2 ampeg 410's.

This is just when you are practising right? what about playing live?

Second option - add another cab will give you more volume. More suface area = more air being pushed.

3rd option - get a more efficient cab than the Ampeg you have. There plenty out there that will cut through for you with more punch and clarity. Go to your nearest bass store and have some fun...try heaps see what works better for you!

The wattage depends on the age of the 410HE. Some older ones were 400 watts RMS (and even lower in older models) but mine is from 1997 and it's rated at 500 watts RMS so I would assume any made after that would be the same.

My nearest music store has all of 2 bass items (not including combo's), an Ampeg B2RE, some 6x10 that I can't remember the name of.. It's all black and has a silver steel grill
