Adding straplocks to an ABG

Hello. I have a new to me Spector Timbre ABG that came without any strap buttons (well, the output jack is also a button but I don't really like that idea). I really don't want to drill into the neck or body of the bass if I don't have to. I use Schaller locks on my electrics and will be buying the MusicNomad Acousti-Lok adapter for the output jack end (Invalid Link Removed). Since the Timbre has a bolt on neck, I'm wondering if I can use one of the neck bolts to secure the other straplock button. I would loosen the strings, remove one bolt, place the button and reinstall the bolt. Does this sound like a workable plan or should I just get out the drill? Thanks in advance for any advice.

One of my ABGs has a button on the back of the heel - it points at me as opposed to pointing toward the head stock. I always sit, but thought I'd try a strap a while back. The strap tended to slip off the button due to the positioning.

I don't think that your neck bolt will be the correct size to fit in your strap lock. You could maybe drill it out to make it fit. I'm not sure if it will work. There may not be enough material for it to work properly after you drill out the hole. I wouldn't do it anyway that neck bolt is designed to seat a certain way and I wouldn't mess with that.

I definitely wouldn't drill a hole in the bass either.

I would just get an acoustic instrument strap. No modification required. That's what your bass is designed to be used with. You just securely tie one end of the strap to your headstock. It won't come undone if you tie it properly. It's just as secure as a strap lock.

Just get the strap lock adapter for the output jack and you're good to go.

Thanks! Have never liked that look but I'll give it a try.
