Ads in PMs?

I have never seen ads in my PMs, even today.
You're being a SM that is not surprising.Today is the first time I have ever seen ads in PMs, large ones in between posts. I get it, for the main forum, but within private communications? What's the point?

Plus, the ads, whether in the MF or PMs, make the pages jump up and down as the ads change size, and many times, causes hangups when scrolling, or typing replies. Due to the ad's total control, they certainly do not entice me to click on them or buy whatever it is they're selling.

I appreciate it.

Here's a new one I just got on the main forum, and it wouldn't go away!

Hi Paul,

I clear the cache several times a day to try and minimize ads showing up, but it does not help at all. I don't use ad blockers but I do have Malwarebytes (although it has never found anything on my computer, a Mac Mini, running Mojave, thankfully). Something I did find odd was, before I upgraded to Mojave I got every few ad related types of cookies, just the ones I would expect for sites I go to on a regular basis such as TB and other music and photography related websites. After installing Mojave I started getting hundreds of cookies that are all related to ad placement types of companies.

The ads here on TB were pretty innocuous until around a couple years ago, but now they have become extremely aggressive, in size, and in placement on the page. Sometimes, there are ads in between just about every other post in a thread.

I understand the need for the ads as a revenue source, but they are just about making this site useless for me given they seem to control scrolling, typing posts, etc., as in, I can't scroll or type until an ad is in place, plus many times while I am typing a post, a new ad will appear and I find that what I thought I was typing doesn't show up. Then I have to retype what I was writing, and this can happen multiple times while trying to write even one short line of text as new ads are "installed". I feel like the ads have taken over the site.

Hope this helps.

@Jeff Scott , MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) reached its end of life in October of 2021. That means Apple stopped releasing any security updates for it over 2 years ago. It looks like the last non-security related update was over 4 years ago. Your system is at risk because of this. You need to be running MacOS 12, 13, or 14 (Monterrey, Ventura, Sonoma) to receive security updates and to run versions of Safari that are going to keep you protected.

I know upgrading means shelling out the $$ which is unfortunate. But in this day and age it's just not safe to run an unsupported OS.

Yeah, I figured I need to take care of this. It will have to wait until after NY when the Apple store shouldn't be too busy.
