Advice, if you please.

I am looking for a new bass rig to fit the following criteria:

1. Enough power to handle a room with up to 300 people.

2. Decent low-B response (I play G&L L-2500s).

3. Delivers good low end output at low volumes, so that I could also use as a practice rig and could be "felt" without having the levels too high.

Any thoughts are welcome.

I use a Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II and two Gallien-Krueger Neo 112 cabs with a G&L Tribute L2500 Premium and am very pleased with the sound. I play in a room that fits 725 people every weekend for church and also practice in a small room with various band setups doing various styles, and, in each situation, the rig performs beautifully. Whether you're pumping out sound at a large gig or practicing at low volumes, it has great low end "oomph," a distinct mid-range, and great high-end definition and clarity. Plus, if you want, you can dial in a setting quite easily to get that classic "GK growl." And a great plus with this rig is that you can either use one cab during practice or two for the real deal and still sound great both ways. On top of that, it's a relatively light and portable rig; so it's easy to haul around to wherever you need to go.

I have the same bass. I use a Mark Bass SA450 through a custom 12" loaded 3-way cabinet (8 ohms) and it's plenty for 90% of what I do. Under 50lbs total too. I'll be adding a second cab (single 15) here soon, but it too will be NEO loaded, so it won't weigh but 35lbs either.

Crest CA9 + your preamp of choice (I would recommend Demeter or Alembic) + Accugroove El Whappo or Whappo Jr.

JT, greetings from Hendersonville. We're lucky in the Nashville area 'cause most of the venues have killer sound systems. With that said, I like to produce the bass sound from onstage. It sounds more like rehearsal & "moves" our band. Give me a little lead, rhythm & vocals in the monitors and I'm set. Outdoors is a different animal & one must adjust accordingly. Don't get me wrong, I still have a DI &/or mic for the indoor shows for FOH tweakability.

We play clubs like 12th & Porter, Exit In, Mercy Lounge, 3rd & Lindsly and The End, etc. I use two interchangeable rigs for these venues and it's funny 'cause the head wattage isn't really the factor. Tone is. The Mesa 400+ & Berg NV610 sound awesome @ 3rd & Lindsly. My MusicMan HD130 & Eden 410XST just fit great at The End. 130 watts & it'll pin your ears back. I'm a tube guy. But I know great bottom when I hear it & these two cabs are phenomenal. Maybe a T-Funk with the Eden? Don't know, never tried. But it wouldn't sound bad that's for sure.

Buy a great cab, you won't be sorry.
