In that price range, I think you can get Demeter Compulator. That pedal gets high marks from a lot of folks.

While I liked the Punch Factory, I REALLY liked the Compulator I just repaired. That's my compressor of choice from here on out.

Alesis 3630. I would rather have the Punch Factory but 3630 is what I have and there is no reason to spend 100 dollars on something I do not NEED.

I lvoe mine, it does the transparent thing really well, but I love it for squished out marcus stuff.

(b) why recommend something just because it's what you happen to have, when you'd rather have something else?

I guess because the Alesis 3630 works just as good as any other compressor I have ever heard in it's price range, plus it has 2 channels so you can run two different instruments with totally different settings at the same time.

I don't have any to recommend, just one to maybe not get

I have only owned a Tech 21 CompTORTION. Probably wouldn't recommend it. It does suck a bit of bass away.
