The way that I look at it, I would not spend crazy money to "restore" it. But, I'd make it work as a player. I would not put money into making it pretty, as it sort of past that. But if you can get it to play well, I'd play the heck out of it.

I'll go out on a fairly strong limb and say that's a fakenbacker. It was probably one of the nicer Japanese copies from way back when and was probably a nice player.
Basing my opinion solely on the photos and what I feel its condition would be if I examined it in person, I would say that it isn't worth restoring unless you have the skill to do it yourself, and have a supply of replacement parts handy. Using non-Rickenbacker style parts would be cheaper.

I'd do it! Looks like a great project bass whether it's real or not. Just set yourself a budget, say 15 dollars in parts (obviously not including strings). I've fixed up some really beaten up guitars and basses and can always do it for under 20$ because I look hard for good deals on whatever parts may be needed.
