Aesthetic Elements That Put You Off From Purchasing Gear

I won't ever buy a bass that is painted in 20th century toilet colors.

In an Electric bass- your typical „boutique“ features like weird shapes, expensive furniture-like woods and lots of different woods, quilted or birdseye maple or the like on the body. And you probably wouldn’t have guessed- I’m not really having translucent finishes aside from butterscotch or white blonde.

Gold or black hardware makes me usually steer clear as well.

In an amp: blue pilot lights. That could potentially be a bummer, but as of now, I could avoid them. They hurt my eyes. Lots of knobs is another no-go.

I don’t do pedals.

I don’t like basses with lots of knobs, it just looks too cramped, and they tend to interfere when I’m playing with a pick. Also not a fan of weirdly shaped bodies or anything pointy. And I’ve probably had enough tort/sunburst to last me a lifetime.

Anything other than a dot or bar as a fret marker - no birds or arrows, I'd prefer there wasn't any ..... especially the ones that have a YEAR as the 12th fret marker. Chunks taken out of the finish - Old tuner mounting holes - chips taken out of the fretboard

Maple fretboards. I just can't make myself like them.
I used to be the same way...

Steve Harris was/is one of my favorite bassists. But I used to actually kind of get MAD at him back in the day: "STEVE!! For the love of...you're in Iron-frickin'-Maiden, man...how can you be playing that maple-fingerboard atrocity?!!?" :rage:

Long story short, maple is now my 'board of choice, almost for purely aesthetic reasons...and don't even get me started on birdseye and flamed maple...

1. Stickers
2. A corporate logo other than that of the manufacturer
3. Air brushed or photographic finishes.
4. Graphics designed to appeal to a 14 year old
5. General gunk or grossness. If you are selling your thing, you should at least care enough about the buyer to clean it up a little. This does not apply to natural wear and tear.

Edit: 6. Counterfits.
